Because people always have been drinking and smoking since the invention of drinking and smoking?

i dont think its a good idea since when you get drunk you will go slower and will run out of time or you will make blunders

I've played pretty tore up and it's usually bad. Just beer careful because they may see your "sudden improvement" as cheating. It doesn't take much.

Back in college in the '70s I would play people at parties that were about my strength but who had partaken of a heck of a lot more alcohol than the minimal amount I'd taken.  All I had to do was refute their wild attacks to win easily.

Drinking never really did much for me so eventually I quit entirely (even business lunches where it was customary) and my lifetime intake is less than a lot of people's Friday night party intake.
