Applet woes

I recently experienced a frustrating game, where the entire outcome ended up flipping because of a glitch with the drag and drop aspect of the live chess applet. This has happened to me before. Basically, when dragging a piece from one location to another, the applet will decide to place the piece somewhere along the way. (This much is certain: I am not letting go of the mouse too early.) In a recent game, I had tried to play the Sicilian and the applet decided I was playing the Caro-Kahn. No big deal. But, after a grueling 33 move game with errors on both sides, the applet dropped by queen in the way of my opponent's knight. Instead of mate in two (yup, it was that bad) I got my queen taken. My opponent gobbled up his win like a starving buzzard. Wow, it was frustrating. My questions:

1. Has this glitch happened to you?

2. Is it better/worse with certain browsers? (I use Chrome. Mistake?)

3. Is chess.com aware of this glitch?

4. Is this glitch caused by something I am doing? (Hypothetical example: triggered by antivirus program starting up.)

5. What to do, what to do?

i've never had this happen personally. one thing you can do is use click-click instead of drag drop. but certainly it seems odd that it would happen.

on a side note, it isn't an applet - it's javascript dhtml. :)

I often experience : I play 1 1 minute live chess, since I find it amusing along with the serious corrsepondance chess, where I like 3 days time best. I have tried 1 0 too, but there is too often to much lag to play that fast. So here is my experience... I try to have a rythm in my play, but the lag makes it often a bit bumpy. So to keep up the pace I drag a piece while waiting for opponent, the fields looks pink, and it all looks like it is OK. But when it is my turn, the whole window freeze down, and my time runs out.... I know this now, so I do it seldom, but when I get too excited i forget and do the stupid thing again. Is it really so you are absolutely not expected to move an obvious move on opponents time in this live-chess??? In other sites it is no problem. I have tried it with Internet Explorer (newest) and Firefox (newest) and it is the same.

i'm sorry - i don't understand the problem. can you try another way of saying it?

Thanks for reply, Erik. Great! I try again...

I play live chess at chess.com. The time limit is 1 minute + 1 second pr move. I often get unpatient, and drag a piece of my own and drop it while not my turn, in an obvious move, like check or so... The square from and the square to become colored in red/pink (to me indicated that this is an option the makers of this site, have considered and found a way that the window (applet, DHTML or...) can handle it..) When it is my turn again, and the already moved should be executed, the whole window "freeze" and my time is ticking. So often i lose on time instead of gaining time as I expected.. I would love to have a explain on this, cause I would like to play rated live chess too on chess.com.. But as it is, I play unrated since I feel I cannot trust too much on the software. On other sites I have experienced that such pre-moving is possible... And it is the same in latest version of both explorer and firefox. Hope this was better explained...

To my friend mjl4871, sorry didn't mean to take over your tread... I will leave it with this, and  : No, I havn't experienced what you are writing..... What kind of "pace" are you plying? Fast?

mjl4871

Nils, no problem. I would also like to be able to pre-move as you describe.

erik

that is odd. i have never had that problem with premoves, and i use them all the time.

so basically, what you are saying is that you lose time on every premove? that it isn't made automatically and quickly? does it ALWAYS freeze? or only sometimes?

airbus

I lose on time something between sometimes and often... But i "always" playes 1 1, havn't tried it in 10 minutes game... And these days I am better in not getting to unpatient, so I manage somehow... I love what you have done and do with this site, Erik, but this particular thing on my computer was working well in the old version of live chess. I have Windows 7, and IE 8 Firefox 3.5.8. And radio wired broadband 2419 kbit/s
