Maybe the funniest kind are the opponents who accuse you of cheating and then offer a rematch. Surely they wouldn't be offering it if they really believed there was cheating ? Or maybe they are preparing to cheat themselves ?

I never get the fruit basket. Damn heathens.

I decline most rematches for a couple of reasons (I play blitz). First, I like to take a moment to analyse the game after it's done. Second,if the player didn't resign when he was in an obviously lost position, he's wasting my time so I decline any rematch. Third, if the rematch was asked after me resigning because of a terrible move, I decline because I hate playing with a psychological disadvantage. Basically, I only accept if I liked the game and the player's style which happens every now and then. I rarely ask for a rematch personally.

playaJay

I normally don't ask for rematches but accept them depending on the opponent and if it was an great game not long and boring.

For now I just play online, or with friends.  I usually accept rematch requests unless I'm leaving, or if I realize that I am making moves that are pointless and make no sense (usually because I am tired - often I play before going to sleep .. or when I am sleep deprived, which I've been told is a very bad idea) when playing online with strangers I don't want to waste their time when I know my moves are thoughtless. If I'm enjoying the games, I usually always accept a request for a rematch.

Since I'm so uncomplicated I've accepted so many rematches including when I was feeling off-colour, psychologically messed after losing winning positions, tired and all other conditions in between. After dropping over two hundred points and trying to claw my way back I still am not scared of rematches. I take them, period.

Strike-Eagle

Usually, I'll accept a re-match from someone I know I can beat.

This is an interesting subject and a very long thread.  I have not read the whole thing yet but here is my take:

If it was a good, close game and we are well suited and someone requests a rematch, I will accept.

If they are way better than me, or I am way better than them and the game was very one-sided then I don't accept a rematch.

Mostly, it's just a time thing for me though.  I'm talking Live Chess here of course, but I play on my iPhone at work on breaks and usually I just don't have time for another game right that moment!  They should have a button where you can answer with different canned reasons, like, "Would love to play again, but I have no time" or "You are way out of my league, I respectfully decline" or "You're a douchebag and should spend some time on your personality, I'll pass."

malhalis

If I win with white first game I always give rematch if the player requests it. I think this is only good sportsmanship. I have no time for players who win with white, then decline rematch, we call them "one and run". People who say there is no advantage playing white are talking rubbish, you only have to look at the stastistics.

plexinico

I ask for a rematch when I lose, and accept to play again when I win.

I don't like it when people just ran away after winning to play another person...

dysko

Generally. I rematch anyone who wants it, it's unfortunate when they don't reciprocate if they happen to win and then run off.

aman_makhija

I try to accept rematches against players who are = to or >than my rating.

You learn the most by playing higher rated opponents. The same way I will offer a rematch only if:

  • I have the time.
  • I either lose or draw against a higher rated opponent. (If I beat a higher rated opponent, I will immediately go to analyse the game.)

I aggree with him. 2 or 3 short, different canned answers would be nice to have. Peter
