Crazy talk.

People ride the fence too much.  You either get play ball or leave the field.

erik does his best.

I will leave it at that.

i never knew there was such a ban. there have been quite a few cases where after i won (and fairly) i've been sent "coded" swears, normally consisting of letters with a comma between them, kinda funny. i sent my opponents a tea time trophy after.

its a chess game =="

@ The Whiners, its erik's site. Shut up. It is his right to control the content we post on his site however he sees fit.

The unfair bans/warnings are just a unfortunate side effect of auto-moderation. It is unavoidable.

I never realised the auto ban until I stumbled on this forum.

Thats great. Though I have no idea how it works, but thats a great way to improve the quality. If players are not willing to give quality in language, better they shut their mouths.

panandh,

the "auto-mod" filters all typed chat before it is posted.

General population users do not see the comments that posted by a few who insist on typing vulgar words that the 'auto-mod' detects and identifies as "unacceptable for a family-oriented website".

Those 'comments'  are not posted, and the action is instant - the vulgar or rude one is either muted or kicked out of live chess.

as kohai posted above - there is no 'context' filter, only a 'word' filter, so user intent/meaning is not taken into context.   The predictable result:  occasionally a user posts something that isn't directed at others but results in action by the automod.

Life goes on anyway.
