Blitz stats: what's up with the percentile?

As you can see from this printscreen, it says my blitz percentile is 59%. But if I calculate my position over the total number of players (401/2346), I get 83%. What gives?

The stats have been horked for a long time.  I inquired to Support months ago, never got a meaningful response, of course.  Search the forums: ohers ask the same thing, Chess.com turns a blind eye.

Thanks. It's annoying when one wants to chart their progression, especially since the ratings are fudged as well. The 83% figure is far more in lign with how I feel I've progressed compared to the percentiles given a few years back.

In another thread, someone said that the percentile counts only active players, while the number of players listed is all players (active + inactive), but I don't know how he knows that, and wonder whether he might just be guessing.  I certainly can't find anywhere where the numbers of active/inactive players are broken out.

Chess.com gushes about how they offer player stats as a feature, but it's kind of worthless when the data looks like garbage, and when they're not responsive to inquiries about the problem.

Your percentile is percentile rank, not rank divided by players.

Please see my detailed explanation about what's wrong with the stats and how to figure your percentile.

Can you explain the difference to this layman? Am I not in the 83rd percentile then?

Look at the Blitz distribution graph.

https://www.chess.com/leaderboard/live

If you find where your rating is on that graph, then your percentile is equal to the percentage of the players that are equal or lower to the rating you are. Right now, that is 62.1 percentile.

Also, the number you were using for the total was wrong. It should have been 2,346,931. But even then, that isn't the appropriate way to calculate that value.

I know the site says I am in the 62nd percentile, but have you seen the figure next to global? I am 401930th out of 2346931 players. Simple math shows I am in the 83rd percentile (1 - (402/2346)).

For the third time, see my detailed explanation about what's wrong with the stats and how to figure your percentile.  It explains why you can't calculate it that way.

That value is not place divided by total players.

Percentile rank {from Wikipédia]

The percentile rank of a score is the percentage of scores in its frequency distribution that are equal to or lower than it. For example, a test score that is greater than 75% of the scores of people taking the test is said to be at the 75th percentile, where 75 is the percentile rank. In educational measurement, a range of percentile ranks, often appearing on a score report, shows the range within which the test taker's "true" percentile rank probably occurs. The "true" value refers to the rank the test taker would obtain if there were no random errors involved in the testing process.
