Can anyone explain this to me?

These are the rapid stats for GM R-Ponomariov (#1 for rapid). Highest rating=2709. Current rating=2960. 33.3% win rate. Highest rated win=2169. ??? Is this a bug or is there a statistics whiz who can explain what's going on here?

Interesting. In 2017 his rating went from 2000 to 2700 after winning 1 game vs a 1200 player.

This may have been around the time chess.com dumped a lot of points into the rapid pool... it was only for active players though so I dunno... but some people gained 500 points without playing a game. Maybe there was no requirement to be active if you were titled or a GM (and some people gained more than others).

As for his current rating of 2960 that seems like a bug. His graph and game history show him at 2100.

Actually I think they pumped up rapid player's ratings around 2014 or 2015, so yeah, his account looks weird.

That's really strange. You'd think chess.com would do something about it, just in the interest of having an accurate leaderboard.

AFAIK inactive people aren't shown, and given this guy's history of long periods with no games, he'll probably disappear from the leader board even if chess.com doesn't do anything.

Anyway, you could report it.

I've noticed this for people playing in the Summer Series - I was 1069 before because I hardly played and now I'm 1612.

NM @1e41-0's is also inflated.
