Can't turn the chat off

Is it possible to turn the chat off for Live Chess? I have tried to turn it off using the Settings, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. People can still message me. Sometimes people try to make pleasant conversation, but sometimes they send me annoying or rude messages, and it distracts me from the game. I wish I could rise above it, but I'm not always able to. So my preference is to just have it so no one can message me during a game. But I can't seem to figure out how to make that happen. Is anyone able to help me?

For instance, today I was playing someone, and he started accusing me of cheating even though I wasn't cheating at all. I think he was just upset he was losing. He called me a variety of names, too: "wench," " whore," "fat," "stupid." It didn't seem very sportsmanlike. I like to play chess online as an escape from the stress of my everyday life. I just want to focus on the game, you know? Every position is like a puzzle to solve, and it helps clear my head and relax me. But if there's gonna be drama and trash talking that makes it a lot less relaxing. So I just want to have the chat turned off.

I am playing on an iPad with the Chess.com app. How do I see standard or blitz challenges instead of the multi-day games when I seek challenges??? How do I open a chat window? Help!
