You may play openly again after finishing more games with fair play. If you feel this is an error, please contact Chess.com support." (I don't play rude...Once or twice I had disconnected, I disconnected either because there had beed an internet problem, or because I had to leave internet because I had a job)

Try not playing live chess when you have to work as disconnecting because of this does get your play restricted sorry.

Hey, idk if you are still opening this thread, but i'm having the same problem too! Do you have any idea what to do now?

You can play with people on your friends list abiding the policy until you can start playing normally again.

Fair Play Policy

Chess.com encourages players to be kind and show good sportsmanship. Our Fair Play policy expects that players will not:

  • intentionally disconnect during games
  • stall to make opponents wait unnecessarily
  • frivolously abort games because they don't want to play black, etc.

If your account is flagged for breaking this policy your account will be restricted. You will still be able to play games with friends or accept direct challenges, but you will not be able to create or accept open challenges until you play more games that follow the fair play policy.

I have now this problem. I didn't know it is forbiddem to disconect (how I can know how many times I use disconect?). I think you should first warn me and then punish me. Now I have just 1 friend who can't play with me Live Chess beacause we both working at different hours.

If someone can chalenge me or add to friends and play with me few games (don't know even how many) I will be grateful.

Avatar of GabrielCon

i did not violate the policy either and got the same message and i wonder because the message explains that you can't play anymore games until you play more with fair play (policy) but how can i play games fairly when i can't play games?

same with me...and my one frienf too

It is stupid rule. Ban without warning? I try to play with my 3 friend but I can' ._.

What should I do?

Avatar of philidorposition

You can play with users on your friends list for a while and abide the policy until your fair play score increases above a certain threshold.

The rule is not a stupid one, it's very forgiving and actually should have come  sooner to chess.com. If you disconnect/let your clock run down instead of resigning and waste other users' time frequently enough, then you just have to go through the limbo.

You should be thankful the rules didn't enforce a permanent IP ban.

I agree, this rule has a lot of potenital, but chess.com is enforcing it very poorly. Users are being banned without warming and have the slightest idea of how to increase their fair play score? Especially since users are restricted to solely playing with their freinds, which majority of players, like me, only have one or two, making this policy very inconvenient. I don't mind going through the so-called "limbo," as long as I am informed ahead of time of what I'm doing wrong, instead of being sent a list of possible things that may apply to me, when it's already too late to fix. Remember, I am not saying that this policy is bad, but I do think chess.com could forewarn people there is a problem, before simply banning them, and how to actually go about fixing it.

You realize just because it's on the website doesn't mean that it's being enforced properly. It's like making a policy and not telling the people that are affected by it, because very few people right now know it even exists. How are people suppose to know about it when there are no warnings? Godspawn, maybe you're one of the select few who activly checks chess.com to stay up-to-date date on your "rights." Which is why I am going to ask you to answer everyones question: What should we do? Instead of just telling everyone to look at the website. I'll let you breakdown the three broad guidlines, ramble through a bunch of jargon, and tell everyone what to do since all the answers are on the website. Once you figure that out, make sure chess.com notifies the people who are violating these rules and give them some type of explaination on how they are, instead of presenting them with three possible ways, in order to further prevent the promblem. Thanks

I totally agree. Chess.com were good to have a fair play policy and ban unfair players althought they have enforced very poorly and i know why let me explain a few thoughts.

1. Chess.com says you can not play live chess games again until you play more games with fair play. Althought how can I play a fair game when I can't even play a game?

2.I was banned from live play for no apparent reason and I really want to play live chess again. Chess.com didn't even inform me of what rule in the fair play policy I violated.

These 2 points are my reasons of why Chess.com needs to manage their fair play policy in a much better way

Avatar of kohai

You can still play, but its against friends and by direct challenges.

A warning message should appear in your game chat area letting you know in advance of the pending restriction.

With each game you play without keeping your opponent waiting, aborting the game or disconnecting from the game, the restriction will lower.
After playing games fairly and without breaking the policy intentionally the restriction will stop and you'll be able to play normally again.

I'm banned from playing live chess for aborting games after one move. My fault as not aware of policy. My question: as I have no friends that play chess (hence can't get my fair play rating up) does this mean I'm banned for life?

See here for information that will help you decrease your need to abort.

Thanks. However 'When I'm out of rehab' isn't the problem (I'll take on all comers - lesson learnt). No my problem is actually getting out of rehab! Thanks anyway.
