I do that too. Wher are you? I'm in sunny Surbiton.
I see a lot of challenges are posted requiring me to play Black, and looking at their previous games these players always seem to play White. This means I don't get to play as White 50:50 and it surely disrupts the ratings too. It also means that these players probably use one opening all the time. Is this addressed anywhere? I think at least that ratings-wise some constraints are necesary.
