Chess players are so easily offended.

So I've been on the site for about a year and I think I've just about heard it all now. No matter what I do people think I'm rude. Here's a list of the types of messages I receive. Notice how contradictory they are!

  • I'm rude for requesting a rematch after I won
  • I'm rude for not requesting a rematch after I won
  • I'm rude for chatting while a game is being played
  • I'm rude for not chatting while playing a game
  • I'm rude for using decline button on a rematch
  • I'm rude for not using decline button
  • I'm rude for using premove (on a 1 min. game...)
  • I'm rude for saying "gg"
  • I'm rude for not saying "gg"

It's amusing to me, but lately I'm starting to feel pity for them, as if they have some type of social developmental disability. It's just sad how many people on here are like this, but it is understandable in a way. Chess seems to attract these types of people I've realized. Then again, it could also just be hurt ego.

Yes we are!!  But how dare you point it out.  Step outside you bounder, and I will acquaint you with the toe of my boot!!

You've got some nerve bringing logic into a discussion like this. Tongue Out

I have no issue but let's do it anyway. Add me as a friend so I can send you a challenge. I see your strength is blitz right now and that's just fine with me. Let's make it five minutes no increment unless you prefer three or ten.

Chess players on chess.com are easily offended.

You're a chess player on chess.com

You're easily offended.

Yup.  You're reasoning seems to follow logically.  I approve of your message.  :)

No no, these people are so offended they message me, insult me, leave stuff on my wall, etc. I just wanted to point out how contradictory it is, which is why I said "easily offended". I couldn't care less about any of those things. Chess isn't that big of a deal to me, but it does get tiring to hear the same things over and over again. There is a difference there.

You care enough to complain.

It's more of an observance. Chess players are going to continue being like that. I just find the contradictory nature of it amusing.

I also care very deeply and passionately.

In fact, I have started a non-profit organization for the express purpose of helping people who find themselves in this exact predicament, cope effectively. With the availability of technology, knowledge, information and resources there is no need for so many chess players to suffer when you don't have to anymore. To find out how to get involved or offer your financial support, contact for details and receive a free gift.

More like "if you find yourself offended over a 1 minute chess game, please sit down and take deep breaths. Realize these feelings are due self-imposed rules and that you do have the power to keep your "reptilian" urges in check" lol

You must be a donor if you have seen the pamphlet! On behalf of the organization and those we support, thank you for making a difference.

True to some extent, but I feel the chess community has it pretty bad. It may just be due to the fact that a lot of peoples' egos are so built up around the game.

Chess is too cautious a game these days. If I play this, he might play this or that or that or this or .....

It teaches you to be suspicious of what your opponent is up to. So some players need engines to ward off all possible threats. Then you post something in a forum and someone is thinking "how is that poster trying to undermine my ego ?" C'mon guys, live a little.

RowdyRoddy

My favorite "insult" is when I checkmate someone and they call me a "loser."  I LOVE irony!  Cry

Stop digging OP.

You must forget why forums exist? It's just a discussion, don't get so bent out of shape.

Exactly. I wish they treated chess more like a game and less like their lives revolve around it. Games are supposed to be fun. There's just not a sense of that here.

Rational_Optimist

you are better than them. do you feel better now?
