Claiming a draw

Sort:

I was just wondering is there a way to claim a draw in live chess when the position is a dead draw and some idiot just keeps moving back and forth because he has more time then you so he can win on time and get a cheap win. It has happened to me a couple of times.

Im not sure about that because it never happened to me. However, you should ask the support room staff about this.

Thanks, but that doesn't help when your opponent can keep moving his king to different squares in a dead locked positionto avoid three fold repitition, he is just trying to get a cheap win and there seems to be no way to stop it when you have less time

Yeah, I should have known that was what you meant, sorry.

Not much else you can do, except maybe play games with increments.  Even 1 second is probably enough for you to hold on until you can claim by the 50 move rule.

If your opponent isn't running into the 3 move or 50 move rule, there's no good way the system can automatically say it's a draw.  In OTB you might have an arbiter, but that's not really feasable here.

You can only get a draw if there isn't a forced win. You might be able to build a fortress type position or sac material to gain the ability for a triple repetition or 50 moves situation but that is dependent on the position.
