Click to move.

Is this new?  I've just made two moves by mistake because of this and it doesn't seem like there's any way to turn it off.  On both occasions I didn't even realise I'd selected anything because I play by dragging my pieces which should NOT count as clicking on a square!

We'd be happy to help you with this. I have a couple ideas of what might be happening but it is hard to tell without more information about how you are accessing the site. Will you send in a email to us here: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new and let us know as much as possible about this please?

i.e. Are you using a mobile device and the app? (If so, which version and which OS/iOS?)

If by click to move you mean that a move will be executed when i first click on one of my pieces and then next click on a legal target square instead of using drag&drop, this is not new, in fact it has been working for quite some time.

I'm using firefox on a pc.  I've noticed it also seems to be difficult now to make quick little moves so maybe it's 'selecting' the piece rather than letting me quickly 'flick' it to the next square, but I'm not sure of this.

The main issue is that I quite frequently click my mouse by mistake.  I also occasionally discard moves by jettisoning a piece I have grabbed (for example in anticiption of my opponent making a certain move) on an illegal square to make sure I don't accidentally put it back on an adjacent square as a move, so it's really unhelpful (it's an accident waiting to happen) if this piece then counts as selected.

I hadn't played in a few weeks so maybe something small changed in that time that causes this new behaviour?  Maybe click to move has always been there, but what counts as clicking a piece has changed?  I don't think it's a bug, apart from it feeling a bit clunky now when I try to move quickly and moves get rejected what feels like more frequently than before.

I have the setting set to drag to move, and it didn't work correctly.

While clicking around, placing arrows and etc, thinking click to move is disabled in favor of drag to move...pieces have moved on me a couple times costing me games.

Feels bad.

Selecting drag still allows you to click to move pieces. Both methods always work.

You right click to draw arrows.

Very annoying "feature", I just lost a game because accidental clicking... It seems that is no way to disable this behaviour.

ChessieSystem101

this happened to me too. I was winning, but blundered my queen by doing it.

Same here, just happened to me

It's absolutely ridiculous, sometimes it just seems to have a mind of it's own, i was up a full rook for nothing and blundered my queen to this braindead feature, it would be fine if there was actually an option to disable it.

HyperSphereO

It's super annoying. The main reason I'm going to leave chess.com and play on lichess.org

Plus lichess doesn't have annoying ads

HyperSphereO

Well, at least as a paying customer of chess.com, you have some leverage for your feature requests...
