The guy IMd me and said he didn't do anything; that it must have been a bad connection. I don't know. My screen showed his clock running down while in reality mine was running down? His last move not shown on my screen until I was notified that I ran out of time? Very Strange.
Clock time SCAM?

Being the person in question, I want to clarify that I did not do any cheating, But I saw his side connection going down before couple of moves earlier than the time he observed this problem. I think its his internet connection being the culprit. I think chess.com will correct your rating if there is an issue.
No worries dude. It seemed suspicious at the time but you seem like an honorable person and I believe you that it was just some weird glitch. If there was a way to actually make someone elses clock run down, it would be a much more common occurrence!
I still don't understand it though. If it was a bad internet connection, then how could we still chat?
And if my clock was running down, how could it show YOUR clock running down on my screen?
Maybe I'll never know, but I'm not worried about it now. And I don't care that much about the rating. I'm used to losing games, especially lately! A couple of more points don't matter.

This is a connection glitch; your connection must have gone out. Same thing happened to me a couple times, because my connection was glitching. No need to resort to calling him a scammer lol

It was only that one time for me. And I don't believe it was a connection issue because we were chatting during the time it was happening.

@forked_again - agreed. I had good stable internet broadband connection with no problem with lags on other chess servers every time I switched to then. Same broadband, same computer, same web browser...

Same happened to me as well before; maybe there was some sort of network failure in that instance. Should hopefully be rare though as it's only happened to me in 3 games, all on mobile.

As I said in a post above, and in a PM to you as well, I don't blame you for what happened. I just don't understand what happened. Network connection does NOT explain it. What you saw was different from what I saw on my screen, but I was connected, and as you know, chat worked fine. Also, the instant my clock ran out (which was showing as your clock time to me), the loss was registered and your last move finally showed up on my screen. There was a connection.

time is what makes me mad, very mad, i be beating a player with 30 sec then its gone .
sometimes i think players , use a program to slow down time or stop it. i asked chess to look into it..
some players are bots

Many times when i am close to win i find my screen freezed and can not make any move, then i log out and in and come back to game. This log out saves me in the games +5min but if less than this i lose in time.

i am to the point to use a screen video capture software. and look at players that beat you they open a acct. in january 1 month they are 800,

always err to safety , if you experience similar again , press refresh or even hard refresh (ctrl &f5) this should only take a few seconds to refresh and should then show whose move it is

That is good advice. I was always afraid it might cause me to abandon the game, but refreshed a couple of times after this incident just to be sure I was looking at real time, and it doesn't disconnect you.

That sounds like an oxymoron

There was a connection issue. For whatever reason, the packet that the server sent with your opponent's move never made it to your computer (chat continued to work because those packets made it through the internet just fine). Since your computer never received your opponent's move, it never updated to show the new position or change whose clock appeared to be moving (basically, the clock times are kept by your computer and only updated when the packet with your opponent's move arrives). At the end of the game, when your time on the server ran out, the server sent another packet to your computer with the results, and that is when the clocks changed and the move appeared.
Since these problems tend to follow individuals and not be server-wide, it is likely an issue either with an individual's computer or the network traffic in-between. If you have these problems, the first step would be to occasionally refresh the page if it seems like your opponent is taking too long to move (or if their chat seems to indicate that they are waiting on you to move). The second step would be to close any programs that may be running in the background - other tabs on your browser, any streaming music/video, any non-vital background processes, etc. This may help keep your computer from inadvertently losing packets from the chess.com servers. The final step would be to simply stop playing live chess for a time (if you know how to do ping tests or a traceroute, you can also do these to try to determine where the disruption is occurring).

when i have that problem, its a player thats been on for a month or less with 500+ its a drone player. have a great day

This happened to me once a long while back in 2017.
I was playing a game with a 1600. I was in a winning position so I was quite giddy. (I was a 1200 so this was an astonishing feat).
It was a long rapid game. (45|45) so we both had around 30-35 minutes.
My opponent's clock started counting and he had not moved. I started dancing around the house with glee!
Then after 40 minutes...
The same thing that happened to you happened to me.
It was not a good feeling.
So I'm playing this guy from India and by move 14 I'm up a piece. I make my move and the clock is ticking on him with still something like 13 minutes on both our clocks. After a couple of minutes it looks like he is not going to move so I message him to move please. He says its your move. I say no. He says ok I'm thinking. I can see clear as day that his clock is ticking and mine is not. The board indicates that my queen was the last piece moved. It is clearly his move. He sends me a youtube link with some stupid music video. 2 minutes left on his clock and he says move please only 2 minutes left. I just wait. Then as his clock goes to zero, boom his knight moves and the window comes up saying I HAVE LOST ON TIME!!!!!
Going back to look at the game it shows that he only took 4.8 seconds to move his knight, but somehow that move never showed on my screen and his clock was ticking, where apparently on his screen he made the move and MY clock was ticking. How could this be???
I was thinking maybe just some computer glitch, but with his smart ass attitude, the music video, his comment that he was thinking etc, It looks like a scam to me.
