confused by functionality

After years, I just came back to chess.com and i'm confused by how the board works during live chess. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I click on my piece, then I click on the space I want it to go to... and then what do I do to finalize/register the move?

It should automatically move unless you have your settings set to Drag Only.

If you're playing a "daily" game, there is a checkmark on the right one has to click after making their move.

That's correct. Daily games can be configured to confirm moves.
