Have to admit I would have thought taking offence at "gg" would seem to be a slightly paranoid interpretation of a polite remark.
I imagine that its usually intended to be friendly, though of course if you have just been thrashed, it could be sarcasm.

If you think "gg" is arrogance, try this: "this is ridiculus w have to win 5 games just to be in turnment?" Such a message popped up in the chat box from one of my recent opponents, who then proceeded to checkmate me for my most embarrassing loss. I immediately added him/her to my "BLOCK" list. We never finished our "set".

yes. Yes it is. the genesis of the saying "gg" is that. Good games or bad games,shaking hands at the end is a sign of respect for your opponent, nomatter how the game went.
well in my case, it does not matter who types 'gg' first after the game though there is truth that some players do it to insult their opponents, i see it as a mutual understanding if not respect of being able to just play and enjoy the game of chess, the appreciation of the challenge after the game, i'm the first one to type 'gg' after a game that i just lost to show my opponent i had a great time playing with him, and to remind myself i still have a great deal to learn in this game... so like just be a sport, dont be bothered by those two little letters, if you love the game just be better at it, there will always be arrogant people, dont be bothered by them and just enjoy the game
