Your computer sucks
How did I lose??
Sounds like another lag and sync problem to me. Don't think you should've "browsed the web" due to boredom, but I can't blame you, especially since from your end it appeared the clock was still ticking on your opponent. A simple page refresh might've corrected the problem. Next time, look at you and your opponent's connection stability (the colored bar next to the name) as another indicator of lag before assuming that the clock is still ticking on your opponent, when it was your move (Re2) that was never received.
Put away the pitch forks for one second lol. Stuff like this can happen whether or not your internet connection is good because of the nature of internet routing.
If you've read enough of these mysterious game clock complaints, all sync issues in live games lead to clocks still running (which one depends on when the lag started) with moves not being synced.

I was playing my opponent, everything was going smoothly. We reached the following position:
My opponent and I each had about 7:45 left on our clocks.
Was a pretty simple position, so I knocked out Re2. And waited for my opponent's reply. all of a sudden, he was not moving any more! Just sitting there while his clock ran down.
After a few minutes, I started browsing other things on the internet, getting bored. Checking back every so often. (My connection to the internet was fine, apparently.)
Still he hadn't moved. eventually I watched his clock run down to the final seconds. When it expired, it left the position axactly as it was (Rook on e2), gave all my time to my opponent, and awarded my opponent the game?!
Now it showed he had 7:47 left, and I had 0:00 left.
How the hell did that happen??? Why would MY clock be running when it was my opponent's turn?? (Which it wasn't running, I was watching it.)
