Step 1- make sure you are using an app

Step 2- go to "play a friend"

Step 3- you'll see the username search button on top of your friend list.

Step 4- just type in "computer2-medium"

Step 5- hit the enter key and it will show you a "play" button in the bottom.

Step 6- choose the time you want on the above.

You're all set! If it says "Computer2-MEDIUM is unavailable", keep trying until you connect.

P.S. - Make sure game mode is on standard, not 960. Computers don't accept chess 960 challenges.

Here I will discuss the options if you are playing on the site itself on a computer browser.

I have been using mostly the new version of Chess.com so I have no idea if this applies to the old version. There are two methods that I am aware of, to play against Computer2-MEDIUM.

First method

On the site itself, in live chess, click on the option 'Open Challenges', just two spaces below the yellow button 'Play'.

You will then see a graph-like diagram with lots of dots and medals. The horizontal axes are simply the time controls of the games (this includes games with increments, I think it is measured based on a game that takes an average of 40 moves, so a 3|2 game will be considered as a 4 min 20 sec game, and therefore you can find all the 3|2 games between the 3 min and 5 min boundaries). The vertical axes are simply the user or computer ratings.

Hover your mouse amongst those dots and medals for details. Amongst those dots there are computer players, including Computer2-MEDIUM, in three different time pre-fixed control formats (actually you can also play in other time controls using another method, but using the graph to find computer opponents only gets you fixed time controls).

If Computer2-MEDIUM is not amongst the dots in a particular column (it is usually rated somewhere between 1200 and 1500 based on my observations), then wait a while as the challenge is taken by another player; within maybe 10 seconds Computer2-MEDIUM would be available as a challenge again. Click on the dot to start a game. If you click on the dot, but the game does not start, it means that another player has taken up its challenge just a split second before you take up its challenge, in which case just wait a while and the dot will reappear around the same area, and click on it. Repeat this process until you are finally paired with Computer2-MEDIUM.

Second method

On the site itself, in live chess, click on the option 'Custom Challenge', just one space below the yellow button 'Play'.

Simply click on it, and a series of options is available in front of you.

There is a column on 'vs' in which the opponent is preset to 'Random'. Click on it or the space around it, and in the following box 'Username', type Computer2-MEDIUM as your opponent.

Following which, you can set the time control, the rating type and the colour of the pieces which you would like to play, and click on 'Play' to start a game.

Have fun playing Computer2-MEDIUM!
