I got softlocked in bughouse (checkmated) and but the game didn't end

I was playing some bughouse and i'm not that good at chess, so eventually i get checkmated. Since my king was on the 8th row i couldn't place any pawns there (or maybe i can i've never tried) so it looked like checkmate. The game didn't end though and i looked for every possible move, none of which i could move out of check. Eventually my teammate captures a rook but i can't place that to block the check (i could place it if i could). Then we ran out of time. How could i have gotten checkmated but not be able to place pieces or move?
