I want to chat with the opponent.

I am a newcomer in this site and have a question. Can I chat with the opponent during the game?

I have tried to send my messages, but I have not be able to recieve any reply from him or her.

I want to enjoy chatting during the game.

I appreciate if anyone comments on my opinion.

An opponent can choose to turn OFF the chat function at the start of a game and quite a few choose to do so.

If this is the case then you will see " Opponent turned off chat" when you start a game.

If you are playing a fast game ..under 10 minutes for the game for example .. a lot of players will not reply to you during the game..depends on the opponent but in general they prefer to think rather than chat.

If you like to chat during a game then i advise playing slow time controls, 15 10 for example and only chat During your OWN time.

EDIT: You have been a member since Jan 2011..Hmm

It may be the case. Cheersfor being so lucid in your way of thinking DaBigOne. It is something i struggle to do:)

To be honest with you, I admit that I have been a member since 2011. But I have not logged in this site for a long time, then I reagrd me as a newcomer.

Thank your for your advice. I will try to play slow time controls.

Chess is a social sport - with the exeption of a few people...

For me, I would like my online playing to be more like going down to the local club.  " Hey nice to see you... lets have a game"... then after the game, it would be nice to talk and have a post mortum over the game... I just don't think that it is the culture of any online chess community... and I started playing on the ICC in the mid 80s....

I would like to play my nine-year-old son.  Is it possible for him to hear me or is it just text chatting?

RandomFilipino

I think you might need to activate your account through your email? If you haven't already

Unfortunately, voice calls are not a feature on Chess.com (yet?). Text chat is the only way to communicate during a game right now.

Thanks.

Wow, that’s a smart business move.  Can I ask, how do you monetize the relationship?

So, how exactly DO you use chat during a game (to talk with your opponent)

Use the chat box, type your message, and hit enter

Iwhen I play with a close friend who lives the other side of the world I would like to talk during the game as it's a friendly and we both want to catch up. Is there a way to set up my chess.com account so that I can video chat as we play? playing strangers with time controls I would never want to talk unless it was to negotiate a draw or something relevant .

There's no way with site provided tools to do that while playing. You could use the Classroom feature and do video though. https://support.chess.com/article/3829-how-do-i-use-classroom
