Whats the 30 seconds?
Isn't it about time the 30 sec rule is removed?

I don't remember being restricted as a free member from typing more than one comment in 30 seconds. It was probably an old rule, and it doesn't seem like a good one. Or maybe it's a new rule.
But why did it make you quit live chess?

The great community was a key reason for me playing here, rather than at yahoo or any other site. Even though there were occassional disconnects, the people here were nice and fun to talk to, and there was almost no cheating on live chess. I found that this rule restricted my ability to talk with others and made the experience less enjoyable for me overall.
I think it was put in place sometime in May or June this year?

huh. Whenever I have looked in at live chess chat it is mostly fan boys spouting crap. You like that sort of thing?

Thats exactly i dont chat in live chat...its a bunch of wanna be online gangstas trying to impress each how online tough they are, how high they are, how drunk they are, how many women they have, how many fights they have been in and always win.

It is too bad that it's a blanket restriction for all free players, as some of the offenders are paying members and I'm sure many of the free players are non-offenders.
I suspect that the biggest challenge is man-power by way of moderation, but I could see a system where warnings were issued by moderators and contributed to the delay you experienced so that the affected individuals were precisely those who were the source of the problem. Perhaps something like the following:
- 1st warning: 5 second delay for 24 hours
- 2nd warning (within 24 hours of the first): 15 second delay for 24 hours
- 3rd warning (within 24 hours of the second): 30 second delay for 7 days
- Additional warnings within the 7 days (or generally anyone who's a chronic offender): Permanent ban from live chess chat repealed only by appeal.

Interesting to hear that from a non-paying member. I personally think that any restrictions should be targetted to those who need to be restricted on a case by case basis.

THey better have lots of spare time if they are gonna have a personal chat with everyone abusing the chat channel.

I personally think that chat should be restricted to paying members.
Just because you paid doesnt give you a sense of entitlement. Chat should be restricted to those that know how to use the chat feature, and use it properly, regardless of whether you paid or not.
Hello, I'm not sure if anyone knows, but back near the start of the year I was a regular user of chess.com. Anyways after the 30 second rule was put on live chess chat I was shocked and annoyed. After awhile I just stopped coming here and went back to yahoo chess despite the cheating. This is my second time logging onto my account in a number of months, and I see that the delay is still in place.
Isn't it time for the 30 second rule to be removed? The few spammers who were stopped by this measure have probably left and chess.com has shown it is willing to do what it sees as necessary if they decide to return. All that it is doing now is punishing people like me, who had used to like to use the chat feature, but now can't because of the huge delay between comments.
