How come I have pieces disappearing from the board even though they have not yet been taken?

Don't use the Opera browser. Use FireFox, Google's Chrome, or Safari for best rendering here.

Also try using the "Control F5" keys to refresh the page as this may help to correct the problem with the pieces disappearing.
