It's time to start the movement back to increment games.

When I first starting playing chess on this website, it seemed like more people played games with an increment at that time, but now barely anyone does. I think people stopped playing increment because of concerns about cheating and engine use, but chess.com has gotten a LOT better since then about detecting people who are using engines and booting them from the site.

As such, I think it's time for people to go back to playing games with an increment. I am so sick and tired of playing [3 I 0] and every other game is a time swindle. I have been trying to play what little [3 I 2] I can, and it is a much more pleasant experience as fewer people are able to time swindle in completely losing positions.

So it's time to start a movement, people need to go back to playing increments. We also need to get some of the higher rated players to do this, because if they do it other people will copy them. If you like playing bullet, play [1 I 1] instead of [1 I 0]. If you like [3 I 0], play [3 I 2] instead. Let's end time swindles for good!

Half of the default choices in live chess have an increment.

If they aren't popular, there's not much you can do.

Certainly not with that attitude.

Chess.com CEO Erik provided data several years ago on time control popularity.

Increments were the least popular- by wide margins.

It would be interesting to see if this has changed at all in the last 3 years.

I never said that increment time controls are popular. That's the whole point of my original post, to build a movement to make them popular. And I also mentioned that the reason people don't like them is because of the cheating concerns which are no longer a big issue with this website, so maybe people may be more willing to go to increments if more people start playing them. It wouldn't take many to start the move to increment, maybe a couple dozen for each level of play.

Many good players wont care much about losing in hard time because there are premoves and time alarm. e.g 10 seconds alarm is a good enought to win a completley winning game in bullet.
