Well then why are the flags even there at all? It costs virtually no bandwith or space to make them a little bit larger, maybe scalable with the size of the board or something.

It's pretty cool to see the actual flag isntead of just the country. I bet a lot of people make it a mini game to recognize/guess what country their opponent is from. However, so much of the detail is lost due to the image being so small. I'd very much like to see a higher resolution sprite used.
