let's ban premoves

Premoves can save your bacon ???  SO WHAT ???  Thats not a good thing.   Its a terrible thing.  You should not be able to sit on an endless clock, wearing your oponent down because they have to outthink you while all you have to do is keep getting lucky on your run.

A person with a significant TIME and PIECE advantage should not lose, all things being equal.  Premoves are not a level playing field.

I have no problem if people like premoves - but why FORCE everyone to use them ??? Its bizarre.

I also disagree entirely with the sentiment that premoves are a must for Bullet matches.

Premoves absolutely destroy Bullet matches.  As it stands, you can make 20 moves in the last 2 seconds of a match.  Further - you simply cannot opt out of matches with premoves - and that is a joke.

EthicsGradient

sorry, premoves ruin bullet.   Lag as well, I admit.

But after 10 years of playing online chess, and coming back into it after a break - I can honestly say that premoves are one of the most nuts things I've seen change - and I'll push for their removal as hard as I can.

To me they're some Wild variation you play for kicks - but should never be forced upon the entire playing community as they are now.

Don't get me wrong... if you want to play with premoves, by all means go ahead.  But give me the option of playing a standard bullet match without them.

It seems to me that, if someone has opted to disable premoves in their settings, they should be automatically paired with opponents who also have them disabled. Otherwise it's not a level field.

Agreed. There should be a way to be paired with others who have disabled premoves.

How is it not a level field? They are making move BEFORE you. In order to do this, they are making moves before they know what moves you are making. Doesn't that level out any time advantage they may have in your mind? The best 1 0 players use premoves to their advantage and try to surprise their opponent and turn their premoves into bad moves.

As for the argument that it has no correlation to OTB chess... no it does not, but, this is NOT OTB chess, so why should it?

It's not a level field if one side is playing pool and the other side is playing chess. I have no problem with playing pool, myself, but we can't pretend that it's the same game. The conditions should be exactly the same for both sides.

It seems to me that we need bigger problems to worry about

Like this?

Atos

Hm, history has seen plenty of people who couldn't deal with small problems, but thought they could solve the large ones.

So that's why I lost on time with a Q+R up and 0.1 seconds!

A smaller problem than this

I just love the way anyone who is pro-premove seeks to either a) close ANY discussion down, or b) continue to insist that there's nothing wrong with one player playing premoves, while the other DOESN"T EVEN KNOW what they are.

It appears that even the option for people to play without them, so that everyone can make a choice is not good enough.

Premoves are an artificial mechanism that will slow the clock, for the player using them, or increase their clock if the game has time increments.

Half the people playing  DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE!  That is not a level playing field

Timotheous

And we should probably end en passant, as many don't know that. And any opening moves that half the people are not familiar with, and see what we are left with once it is made a completely level playing field.

sandeepreddy4

if u cant play quick chess then dont opt for it... there are people who like quick chess so they need premoves... u cant ask to remove premoves just for ur sake... even i dont like quick chess so i just dont play them.. u too dont play but ask to completely remove it..

maybe have the pre-moves in quick live-chess and have the option (for both players) to have pre-moves or  not in the long time control in live chess ?
