Hi clowns1021, how many live games have you played in a row without disconnecting, with chrome?

JimEBau

I originally came to this site just so that I could play live chess.  I'd used places like Yahoo!, MSN, etc., and they are OK.  I figured there had to be a chess site with the word chess in it, so on a whim, I typed www.chess.com into my browser, and VOILA! Here I am.

I played Live Chess exclusively for the first 3-4 weeks.  I had several drops, but realized that Live Chess is much like other sites.  It doesn't matter where you go or what game you play; you will get disconnected at some point.  It always happens.  Whether it's X-Box Live, or any game site for RPG, FPS, or whatever on your home, college, or business network; you will get dropped.  There're too many ghosts in the machines, and too many servers, traffic/bandwidth/packet issues, networks, concurrent connections, etc., etc., etc.  I don't care who you are, what your company is, who your ISP is; you will get dropped.  It's inevitable.  Trust me; I'm a network geek/computer nerd.  It's what I do for a living.

So, someone invited me to play an Online game.  From there, I've been invited to join seven groups so far, and have entered several tournaments.  I haven't played Live Chess in a long time, and have had zero problems, so far, with Online Chess.

I suggest that if you are disgruntled with Live Chess that you make the jump to Online Chess.  You will be much happier, and can play as many games as you like, to your hearts content.

Whoa!! Totally agree!! Online Chess is great here!! Cool

there are always drops in connections, but other chess sites are taking care of this by adjourning the game so that the players can continue their game later. Chess.com is currently not having a technical solution for this. Online chess is good, but live chess is even better when it works.

Subscribers get the edge on disconnections. It is just mere folly people would start what they say "a work in progress" at the expense of other players.

Horror stories are everywhere at live Chess. For instance after obliterating a USA opponent on the board leaving him with a mere King against my Queen,Bishop and three pawns advantage, I noticed that my opponent keeps getting time jack ups and maintains the 15 minute gameplay on his clock!!

Now I dunno why this should be for I was left with a few minutes while he was fresh as the morning breeze on time?

Apparently my dad complained on the chat room and other players started coming in to see.. only then did this guy let his time go geesh.

Question is when is all this gonna be a thing of the past eh? Maybe i should subsribe to Diamond and all these BS will go away eh? Fixing something already started is much easier than starting all over again. Can we expect changes soon and oh Firefox and Chrome sucks just the way IE does.

I would be happy just to be able to log in to live chess and worry about the disconnections later.Cry

hmmn

getting disconnected sucks...losing some rating points also sucks..playing badly

and losing ratings sucks...I try to be a 1/2 glass full person, so I will hang in there

because what I felt in the beginning when I found this site is still true...despite

some trash talkers and timewasters the chess here overall is better with what

these guys (?) are doing than the other sites I tried.....winning is great....losing

any way sucks..that's life

Do you want some cheese to go with that mini violin?  Erik, after you fix the much needed "Live Chess" thingy... Don't forget about the "Blinking Screen Problem" with Online Chess.  and Firefox is not the answer...

I use chrome and have been playing for a few months now, played 283 live games & have only been disconnected twice, so maybe it's your connection, but for some it works & some it doesn't. They have said many times that they are reworking the live thing from the ground up to make sure it will work right.

Headmaster, do you want some cheese to go with that whine?  Let's have a pitty party!
