Online players should use the same manners they would use if they were playing in person. If you have a hopeless position, resign. If you disconnect more than three times in a game, your Internet is not working properly and you should resign. I played someone (from Canada, my own country) who seemed to be deliberately disconnecting and reconnecting dozens of times to distract me. The proper response to this: walk away from your computer and let the idiot cool his heels while your clock runs down to zero.

Haven't you ever had a bad connection? Back in the dial-up days, you would get disconnected and it was a mad race to get reconnected before the game was lost.

Even in these days, even in Canada, some people have bad connections.

I doubt that anyone deliberately disconnects to annoy their opponents.

notmtwain: I should have mentioned that I repeatedly asked my English-speaking opponent if he was having Internet trouble, but got no response, yet my opponent repeatedly offered draws between his disconnects, despite having a losing position. You're right, I doubt anyone deliberately disconnects, but It sure seemed wierd.
