Well, I never had this kind of problem, and this of this kind of problem is pretty rare(first time I've seen something like this). So, it must be your connection or your computer. Not the server.
Also, Chess.com waits 180 secs to abandon game, last time I checked. Not 60. So you should have plenty of time to reconnect. The only time I ever lost by abandoning was when my computer BSoD'd.
Is this a genuine complaint, or are you trying to start a flame war?
Not rare. Happens to me all the time on the iphone app.

You haven't checked recently then. it is 60 seconds for me when playing 10/0. (i dont play other time controls.)
Yes, this is a genuine complaint. This is not the first time it has happened. merely the last straw before i became so frustrated that i felt the need to post on the forums about it.
I even went thought the effort of running a small battery of tracerts to acertain whether or not it was MY connection i ran them DURING the reconnection process and after i had manually reconnected. All tests returned approx the same result. Do you understand what that implys?
I would seem to be that my connection while "reconnecting" was exactly as good as when i was actively connected. And yet it STILL COULDNT CONNECT ME.
When the site gives me an "attempting to reconnect" message, and all tests say i can reach the site with an average of like 30ms, i expect it to bloody well reconnect me before the game is abandoned, or to atleast recognize that i am reconnecting and just run my clock.
OR at the very least let it after say 20 seconds give me a "timed out" or "failed to reconnect message". Somthing to let me know that the system has failed and i need to take things into my own hands. It isnt like im saying it fails EVERY time. Just often enough to be iritating.
I find I am usually in a winning position or my oppoent is in severe time trouble when this happens. While I have not been HERE very long, I have noticed that several games tried repeatlyed to knock me off server. But I have a very good ISP with new modem and lines so I did not get burned, the other guy did. In 4 of my 10 games this happened to me. In other sites the ratio was about the same....very funny I am on for hours then Zap at a bad time, I am never disconnected when I am losing or in time trouble.
My connection is bad only on this site, so yes... it is the server.
I have just been restricted by your fair play policy, for some reason I've been having trouble staying connected to this live chess site. It seems to me It's your site as I only have similar problems when I'm winning or near winning a lve tourny. Interesting that you blame me. Captain Stomp

People disonnect on me quite often, and if it's during a 30 min. game they often get me stuck there for the remainder of the game. Game aborts can get out of hand, it seems sometime because I'm American but mostly because they don't want to play black I asume. This got so bad one day I found myself aborting a couple games just to play as white then I was warned and figured I'd better play black. Recently this live chess site seems to have a connection issue as I have no problem on other sites. I may wrong but I havent been disconnecting on purpose and it should be obvious.
Same for me, the site wants to penalize me for their connection issues.I have problems getting through a game because of the connection issue. What other sites would you recomend?
I like this site, just wasn't sure how to message them so put it here. I also play at gameknot. Have better connection there but problems here have been recent unless winning a tourny.
The problem seems to be with long running scripts. how can a person avoid this site caused spam. I do realize this is advertising to support the site but getting through a game can be quite difficult at times. Looking for a solution to block the scripts. Help!
a lot of my games were "abandoned" because my server suddenly encountered a problem and had to restart or some such. it was strange because it always happened at a critical moment near the end of the game. i guess i lost a lot of credits (i'm getting warnings of being restricted) for abandoning so many. anyway, i changed browsers and that seems to have solved that problem. but boy, did it cost me a lot of games.
Oh yeah, there is that other thing where as soon as you sit down to a game suddenly somebody needs you to do something you were totally not expecting and could not wait.
It's a clientside issue. If you have any actual facts to dispute such a basic notion, feel free to post them.
Ps: I particularly like the ones that feel like it only happens when they are winning, says plenty about the average complaint.

if they actually Disconnect on you during a G30, they have three minutes. I play that time control alot too- and occasionally an opponent plays agonizingly slowly.
what can you say? they can do this during OTB chess as well. there's nothing stopping your from listening to music or doing a few chess puzzles.
This happens a lot to me, too. And most often when I'm winning! This is the reason I have refused so far to become a paying member. So I just do the puzzles and don't play here anymore. :(

So i have just lost another game due to "abandoning" it,
and i would just like to apologize.
Forgive me for not running fiber optic hard lines directly to your servers to ensure this didnt ever happen.
Shame on me for trusting that your system when it says "reconnecting" with an animated system and continues to update the clock in the background is ACTUALLY reconnecting.
Clearly being naive enough to wait for 45 whole seconds before manually reconnecting to the site was my mistake.
Clearly with 9.5 seconds on their clock and 5 minutes on MY clock in a 10/0 game, waiting more than 60 seconds for me to reconnect would have just been TOO inconvenient to them.
How dare I. Shame on me.
Incidently i ran a tracert after it didnt reconnect in 10 seconds.
The first of them found the server quickly. (a fact that empowered my decision to let your system handle reconnecting me. )
And the second one returned an almost identical result (after i had manually reconnected.)

So im pretty sure the problem was less "I cant connect" and more "this system has no freaking clue how to deal with reconnecting someone."
As further evidence for this hypothesis I submit that no less than four times now I have DCed, and had it "reconnect" me to games 20 minutes over and done. (I must assume that the live games I got bounced out of counted as "abandoned" as well, so I apologize for those as well.)
