I'm fuming after a game I just lost. It was a forced draw and my opponent was in time trouble, so I was expecting to make out like a bandit. But at one point his clock stopped counting down, while mine continued to obey the laws of the universe! I lost because of internet lag, boohoo...
LIve Chess remains broken

Haven't had any problems myself, but several opponents have disconnected/reconnected a lot throughout games.

So I'm not hallucinating?
Depends upon what you've been taking. It's possible that the opponent is using premove, as this feature tends to monkey with the clocks.
Cheaters on another site have been known to use toggle switches, according to an administrators there, to manupulate lag--I really fail to understand why folks go to so much trouble for a few rating points. Perhaps that cheat works here even better.

I'm not staff, but is it possible your opponent had "premove" active and was moving his 'expected response' while you were thinking? if he is right, nearly no time will elapse for each of his moves. if he is wrong, he will drop a piece. meanwhile, ifyou are obsessing over the clock, you will consume precious time to worry about a setting you maybe didn't know about.

Yes, if you want to konw, it is possible to cheat by manipulating the lag. However it is very hard to do and, out of the several HUNDRED players I encountered until now, I suspect nobody of actually manipulating the clock. You must admit that there are some folks better than you.
By the way Schackgeek, could you explain how you can win as Black in the following position, if you had more time? It's from one of your games and you are Black.

I have learned one thing from this thread. I hadn't realized you could enter a future move before you opponent moves. Good for saving time when it is getting short, but not so good if your opponents move wasn't the one you were expecting. That might explain some of the quick moves by an opponent.

Envirofan,
if you premove - for instance - a recapture - provided your opponent captures your piece/pawn - you would be able to recapture - then the move will be played. If you premove such a 'recapture' and your opponent does not play as you expect, then it won't be possible and the move will 'disappear' without happening.
fiction, for illustration only: e.g. 1. d4 d5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. e4 and, expecting black to play 3. ... dxe4 you place your c3 knight on e4... but instead, he moves elsewhere - your move disappears and doesn't exist because the system won't allow you to place your pieces on top of themselves.
no time elapses when using premove... provided you make your 'premove' while your opponent's clock is running. your move occurs instantaneously and thus, he may accuse you of cheating on the clock...
Bottom Line: I suspect that many allegations of cheating on time are simply a result of folks not realizing the premove potential. Combined with internet lag issues, of course - but those cannot really be affected by the players.

I strongly disagree. I came here wondering why my opponent's time would go up, stop going down, and whatnot. Apparently many other people had the exact same problem. The lag might be an issue but the premove isn't the reason why. I thought that they might be saving time by using premove so I purposely tested out absolutely ridiculous moves that involved moving my queen wide open for a capture. Every single time they captured the queen with a piece they would have NEVER moved with premove. In my last game, I tested out a one minute blitz. Half of my moves were premove and the other half were less than 3 seconds worth of thinking (a bunch of my moves were extremely stupid and I got a ton of my pieces captured). However during turn like 21, he had 49 seconds left and I had 23....There's most definetely some sort of bug..

I find that the clock is weird in bullet live chess games. My opponent either gains 10 secs more every time they move or their clock resets to 1 min somehow.
I was playing with clock 1 min /0 extra time

Exactly! I have seen this many times and it's all due to lag, when the clock adjust to eliminate the time spent in the network and not actually used by your opponent. By the way, your opponent sees exactly the same thing.
1 0 is for really fast people. I may happen to make like 20 moves in 10 seconds. I even had 1 0 games with 50-60 moves or more. Yes, it's crazy, I know. Especially when you have a winning position and your opponent premoves trying to win on time.
im pretty sure they've acknowledged that there is a problem,...
