Is the app only on one device? I ask because when I play online chess I would sometimes get a move alert on my ipad and sometimes on my iphone. Then DeepGreene suggested disabling all alerts in notification center on ipad so when I'm on the go ,I would get all current alerts on iphone. It worked.
Try the old shut your phone completely off then restart it.

I just started using the Iphone app, and the following bug happened to me a few times withing a couple of days.
After I make my move, my clock keep running even though it's now my opponent turns.
And nothing happens after that, I just eventually lose running out of time.
Once, when the bug was happening, I decided to try and access the game via my computer; once I got into the game, it was actually my turn and I could see that my opponent actually had played.
So it seems that the application sometimes doesn't register a opponent move, and sort of trap you into running out of time.
