If you walk around looking like a horse - shark hybrid you might find that reality does in fact revolve around you

I'm thinking about changing my avatar to something less scary (I've been told that it's terrifying). I don't want people to think I'm malevolent - - I'm actually friendly and try to be mellow. But the horse-shark is just so cool. Don't know who the artist is, but what a fine Photoshop job!

"Thanks you for your time" and give them a smiley if it was an intense game (online that is)

I give them a trophy if it was a good online game.

There's a saying that is apropos here...

"You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't!"

MasterMatthew52people disable chat before game starts to avoid eventual rude words. It's pointless to do after, becouse the hit is already there and you can just click on new game.

@solskytz I do not agree. When i lose and when i feel the guy is way worst than me, Him giving me his analyze and judge of my move is absolutely rude.

Playing chess online is not the same playing over the board.

And in Bullet and blitz there is 95% agression. Any word even good one can mean the opposite to anyone. GG can be said not only for a game ended draw, but for a game when both sides had chances for a win, but one side slipped or made great move that other side will admire and surrender - and be at least 5 min game.

Keep nice words and behavior for over the board. Online does not mean much - just some stranger saying gg.. but otb will be apreciated much more.

I must say, if I completely wipe out my opponent, I don't say "gg".  If they want to say it, I'll return it, but not until then.  However, if it was a close game, (or if I lose...) I won't hesitate to say "gg".

How about a game of 15 | 10?  I won't disable chat!

e4_guy

I must say that this message about "xxx disabled chat" could be different maybe. I've got insulted few times on live chat, so I disabled it. Not because I don't have respoct for my opponents, but simply because I dont have respect for idiots. Since there is no "idiots_filter", simply disabling chat is only solution.

Plus, chat is just distraction to the game. When I had it enabled, some people used to send messages during game, which I find pretty much annoying.

I received throphies with sarcasm... ironic.. from angry people. I found out that people with 15-25k games or more are often crazy ones. I played 4 unrated games vs one guy and ended 2-2. 2 white and 2 black games. I tryed openings etc. Then i click new game - 15 sec later i received trophy with msg 2-2 you are good student.. ... (i was higher rated but he played so badly even with my rare openings that i dont play i made even score and probably will beat him in rated game and saying i was like his student LOL...

30 min later i played him (i did not know  he was that guy) and he won 1st game and he started insulting me haha idiot moron haha etc etc..

kiwi-inactive

You could always just drag and minimise the chat section of the screen? ?

TurboFish

Here's an idea: when abusive messages arrive via chat, don't disable it. Don't respond either, and let the perp waste their time, and thicken your skin in the process. I've noticed that ignoring people who insult me usually makes them become hysterical. Let them stew in their own psychological juices.

Well so have I but can't you just deal with it? It's funny how people get so mad and send those things... Just laugh a little at those idiots and move on.

xman720

Whenever I lose I say gg.

If people say gg to me when they lose, I say it back.

crisis solved.

batgirl

I disable chat permanently. How anyone feels about it is no concern of mine.

DualeWardi

who cares if he disables chat? he was obviously in a bad mood

DjonniDerevnja

I dont disable chat, but I am always silent during the games, becouse I need every fraction of the seconds  to think and move.

DjonniDerevnja

Sometimes I write after the game, but my opponent leaves before I hit enter.

Dear live chess user that disabled that on me,

I am sorry that me trying to have manners by saying "good game" upset you. But there are some people on this site who try to be nice and make friends. Normally after a chess you good game, it is the right thing to do. Instead you go ahead and disable the chat right after I said it. Very nice manners. The least you could was say good game back or just accept my rematch without having to disable the chat.

I know that some people can be really mean and offensive on chess.com live chess chat, but there are a handful of nice, normal people who try to communicate with other chess players around the world. The least you people could do is give people a chance. Then, if they start to annoy you, block them, disable chat or whatever you want to do. A lot of people on chess.com are the nice type who just want to have a good conversation about the game, or, mostly, just be nice and say gl or gg like in a real game of chess.

It just annoys me when you people disable the chat the second the game loads so I can't even say good luck. At least half the people I play have done this and today I thought I would say something after I had chat disabled on my game right after I said "good game" and offered a rematch.

Saying "good game" is not ignorant, it is not meant to be offensive, and it is not a way to say "Ha! You suck! I beat you!" Saying good game is proper in any situation when you play a game of chess. I really hope you do say good game or at least shake hands in a real game of OTB chess.

I know it is online chess, but come on people. Just give people a chance. Half the time they don't even talk to you in the first place. If they start to abuse you block them and report them. It's that easy!

Sorry about the rant but I want to get my point across that it is rather rude to disable the chat.

With regards,

~Matthew

P.S. good game to everyone that I have played and will play. I wish you good luck in your games.

Very well said. I completely agree.

Jedisson

I got banned for aborting games against "chat-disablers"

GooberPile

I only say "good game" after my opponent plays a horrible game. A little devilish sarcasm.
