New Logic for Auto-pairing and Seek Graph!

Along with going back to the old pairing system, I'd like to see the system reverting to showing the captured pieces after the game, rather than just during the game. It makes it a little bit easier to see what led to what and why you made such an awesome move/godawful blunder when you happen to run back through it to see where it all went wrong

Well all i can say is that the new update has failed miserably.. it has slowed down the seeks dramatically.. i think much better to reverse the process  and get back to the original program version..

@Infinite_Zero - You have the option to abort only at the beginning of a game, where it's meant to be a "nice-to-have" way of getting out of a game you started by accident (or whatever) without losing rating points.

Doing this occasionally will have no impact on your fair-play score. Doing it frequently will have an impact, as a disincentive to people who use this as a (very disruptive) way of vetting "candidate" opponents or even opening moves. Obviously, that's not cool.

@paulkeres - Clear these two fields before sending the seek, and you'll get a good match much more quickly than before...

I would love to see some time controls like 2 minutes and 12 seconds per move.    Its not like you can get stuck with an opponent who won't move but you always have some time to win a won game.

My reasoning is this:

1) I can't stand the sudden death games.  And a one or 2 second increment is no help either.  Older players need a bit more time to think than players who were raised playing chess.

2) If you just pick a long 30 minute game the guy might take 15 minutes to make 3 moves.  Or you might end up with a won game and have to sit there for 30 minutes because my opponent decided to just leave his computer.

The beauty of the Fischer time control is it adds time as there game gets longer.  But your preset time controls don't utilize that main advantage.

I completely agree with this. I would love time controles like that.

DrawMaster

I believe that 2 12 was in the list of common choices originally, and that it was removed at some point.

Irontiger

Methinks 5|2 (5 min + 2s/move) is a default time control, as well as 15|10.

Of course it is possible that you want something in the middle but they do exist.

I don't have this option anymore, is it gone in the two days that have passed? My rating is going down the sewers, players with 1300 -1400 rating are mostly the same as 1500-1600. I can't filter lower rated players, for example I get a match vs a 1304 when I am 1398, but I dont get a match against a1490. In general I'm playing players with lower rating than me, and what is funny is that there is no noticeable difference, only thing that changes is that I am 1300 instead of 1600. And yes, I do care at least as much as to write this post.

In short, stop pairing me with the overpowered lows. Thank you. At least send me an occasional +100 opponent.

I know, I have the same problem as you. You will also be happy to know that the guy that commented just before me got his account terminated for that comment :) I wish they could just bring back the old system and maybe find a way of dealing with those people that seem to get a kick out of comments like the one before mine.

In my opinion, I've enjoyed playing with opponents of higher ranking than me.That is a very efficient way for me to improve my skills (forcing myself to play against better players). Therefore, I think it will be better if we can still set up a range for the ranking of the opponents that we are looking for.

DeepGreene

The options are not gone. You just have to select "Custom" on the game-type menu (with the time-controls) to see them.

Yah who set the bracket ranges?? they aren't even even. why would we have to play 200 points behind?? and 100 ahead??  Why wouldn't it be split on your current rating 200 up and down?? How can you play better players, instead you get stuck playing much lower people.

baddogno

For some reason a lot of the posts here remind me of the lyrics to the old "Big Rock Candy Mountain".  I'm sure you remember some of the lyrics: it's the land with cigarette trees, lemonade springs, and every chess game is with a better player.

Default is +/- 200. (But it will generally match much more closely than that.)

If you're seeing something else, then my best guess is that your current range was set manually at some point...

RubiksRevenge

Sound like a good idea to me, got a laugh at some comments suggesting that they play higher rated players to get better and then in another post that they only play bullet Laughing

And "user bahivor" - So the rude guys on chess.com will not get a match?! That's so sad.

Haha! Well... rudeness is harder to detect. But, for example, we are doing our best to keep people who disconnect frequently apart from people who don't. :)

Do you want the prize for best chess site?

Becouse that is how you get the prize for best chess site.

:D keep on the good work

Because these match so quickly and would otherwise strain the Seek Graph with frequent updates, we no longer display these default seeks. Unrated and custom seeks are still shown.

So why do I still see default seeks on live chess?

You probably aren't seeing "default seeks" on the graph, really. If you see seeks for standard time-controls, it's a good bet that the challenger has either set them to be unrated, or else has configured the Rating min/max to a range that does not include their own rating +/- 25.

knightkrawlirr

would use a range like -25/+200. Being willing to player higher but not lower players is selfish

why is that shocking or offensive to anyone? if someone wants a range a like that? it's probably because they want to increase their rating as fast as possible in order to only play higher rated players and not get stuck in the muck. this is particularly pertinent to certain time controls like 1 0. would matter less as the time control increases (assuming normal circumstances/conditions).
