I tried that but I dodn't see how we can switch over to live and onto the same board. Or is there a specific message I have to send?

You have to get your friend in live at the same time you are. Then you can send a challenge.

You want the section on Live chess. If you are on v3, the process is similar but the locations are a bit different. If you are both on the app, the process is different.
