I've heard about pre-moving but don't quite understand how it works.  I can understand how a pre-loaded standard opening would work, but this sequence STARTED over a dozen moves into the game, in a complex position nobody could possibly have been able to predict in advance, so wouldn't he have been better off just looking at the board as it existed at time t and waiting to see what I would do?  It was like facing the fastest gun in the West (or in his case, the East), but he couldn't quite hit what he was shooting at.

Troll, gotcha. Dully noted.

I don't really comprehend your response, but there's only one "l" in "duly".  Spellcheck isn't gonna help you here.

Yup.

To say that it is impossible for someone to use a disconnect/boot program, here on this site, is kinda like a banking institution, credit card company, or even the Pentagon, saying that it's impossible for someone to hack into their systems, because of how good their firewalls are...Actually, I've never heard tell of anyone ever getting past any security of those aforementioned agencies.  Hmmm.

Martin_Stahl

The thing is, the two clients never talk to each other. Your opponent can't see your IP address.

I don't think anyone will claim that the site is un-hackable, just that it would require that to get to your IP in order to try and bounce you. Seems like a pretty far-fetched thing to do, just to try and win a game and a very unlikely scenario. People that are that desperate to win are going to so something much easier.

It is absolutely nothing like that; which goes to show how little you understand the subject.

Then, please explain to me and everyone else, exactly how it's like!

I don't have to. Others have done so very well in this thread already. Explaining again would be redundant.

I have never thought of this issue, but since this has happened to me twice in the past week, I googled and this thread popped up. Good connection. Playing well. All of a sudden I can't do anything and my signal is gone and I the countdown to forfeiture is going. Meanwhile, my wife beside me is is working online. I'm watching tv on a firestick and hulu, and I checked and was able to get other things to load online. AS SOON AS THE TIME WAS UP ON MY GAME, I was able to reconnect. Was beating someone 80 points ahead of me.

It's still your connection.

Other traffic on your network can cause the Chess.com client to lose connectivity to the Live server. That connection can't buffer, being pretty much real-time, and is more sensitive to network issues than some other kinds of traffic.

When the client is in such a disconnected state, even if it doesn't register that it is actually disconnected (which may be a bug in the code) it will force a reconnection when time runs out (or will try to). When that connection is successful, it will try to claim you won on time but the server will no accept that since it keeps the official clocks and will send the official game state to your client.

Sometimes, refreshes will fix the problem.

This is actually a good way to understand how disconnecting someone would actually work.  For someone to disconnect you, they'd need to know your username or password.  Then they could log into your account and disconnect you by opening live chess.  There are other alternatives, of course, they could hack your internet carrier, for instance.  However, we don't think those kinds of things are happening.  If it were, we'd see multiple complaints on individuals for disconnects.  Instead, we see them randomly assigned, and we can almost always find a connection issue with the person issuing the complaint!  I hope this information is helpful!

People who don't understand how computers work come up with crazy ideas.

It's like saying you heard a noise in your house, so it must be the coordinated work of international spys whose governments funded the operation with millions of dollars.

Sure, that is possible... but more likely a bird flew into your window and you're just an idiot. @shaun is just too nice to say it.

Do you fall into the know-it-all category or are you a pre-move?

I like to pretend I know it all, sure. I think people's lack of common sense gives me an over inflated opinion of my own judgement / knowledge.

But I don't know what that has to do with premoves. Sure I use premoves but... ?

See, I didn't even read your post clearly, so definitely I don't know it all tongue.png

It's not just a matter of logging in with someone's user and password. Flooding the connection with data packets will cause the target connection drop. Anyone with basic programming skill could write a similar code.

That is literally impossible. Do you guys even think about what you're saying, or do you just spew random nonsense theories into the air and hope one sticks?

And thats why we have you here, horsey,  and to think they mute you for it sometimes.   Ingrates 😉

There are hacks for literaly everything, anything online is crackable and hackable. You should not overreact if you want your reply to be taken seriously. The disconnection hack is real and happening to many players, you'd better get acquainted with that. Also because "this is chess.com" I expect chess.com to do something concrete against this online plague which is ruining the game experience to many and many more players everyday.

you are right but anything that can flood into the game in high amounts can lower the RAM and create a lot of lag
