Farbeit for Dev Team to be active players, but I fear most of the Dev Team does not bother to interact with real users of the site. If they had done so 5 years earlier, we could have avoided a good portion of the User Interface many of us deem unsuitable for everyday use. But, alas, here we are. (I also now manually check the 'Follow' box as I've noticed auto-Follow is no longer guaranteed on this site for forum threads.)
.... how I miss V2. The stability, the ease of use, the simplicity.
In the above in order for a player to block another player, one has to now click and click (and then confirm) which makes for three clicks. Blocking players is, along with following, one of the most common actions a player will make yet now the order has been changed.
Please make the most common actions among the six default actions when mousing over another player's handle. At the moment the six default actions are: 'challenge', 'chat', 'friend', 'gift membership', 'observe game', and archive.
I posit that observe game and follow be reversed as well as archive with block. Indeed, blocking players in live is a common occurrence that live players must engage in as there are a seeming endless horde of players that are abusive, cheats, lagging, and or have handles which for some reason or other make one want to click the block choice faster than a chess engine can calculate a millipawn advantage.
I personally have never used the 'archive' option nor the 'observe game' option (indeed, why is that even a choice when 'follow' does precisely that already? I may be obtuse here but the distinction escapes me -- should we not have the LEAST number of options in the interface possible in order to streamline the UI?)
At any rate - when the site switched blocking to the drop down menu, I didn't notice the arrow head pointing downward as I didn't even KNOW there were more options (indeed, why would I care if my needs are met by the defaults?) so I in my ignorance (you know, OTHER sites, when they make a UI change actually INFORM their users that a change has been made and provide a quick tour to click through)... so, because I didn't notice the drop down arrow I assumed that the site had reneged on giving us an open ended block list rather than the 200 we were allowed in version two, I proceeded to clear out my current block list. Well, imagine my surprise upon then NOT seeing the option to block a player! It was only THEN that I saw the drop down arrow and found the block choice.
Sigh. Must you fiddle around constantly with the site? If you MUST then PLEASE let us know so we don't WASTE TIME hunting for something that USED to be in some place we EXPECTED!
And REALLY, not having block a player on the default six? Who thought THAT was a good idea?
Sorry. Please place blocking and following back on the default six. Thanks.
Keep up the good work.
