Players that know they're going to lose so they let the clock wind down

Sort:
RothKevin

I have had this happened to me quite a bit recently, and it's really annoying.
If a player knows that he/she is going to lose, then that player should resign.
Letting the clock run is surely an act of imaturity, and shows that one has no sportsmanship

AlCzervik

You are correct. I've only been on this site for a few months, but I already have a "list" of those players. I even asked one player why he did it. He stated that he never gives up.....he only had his King, and zero chance of stalemate.

Kevin, just keep in mind the best revenge is to win!! Then, play others.

Velocity111

I've done this before, not on purpose though. The game won't register that I'm clicking the resign button :|

That sounds like some type of bug. Maybe you should check some other blogs or contact support.

CuzinVinny

ugh, another ignorant post.

"You miss 100% of the shots you dont take"

I will be damned If you did not do this at least once as well. You also prob resign when you lose your queen too LOL

Who is "you"? Maybe velocity does have a bug. You are out of line if that is the case, or, if you are referring to me, because I've never done this.

This topic has been beaten to death on chess.com and practically every chess related website in the universe.

Here's the deal: In a blitz game, there are several ways the game can end. Checkmate, resignation, a stalemate or 50 move rule, 3 fold repetition, agreed draw, or timeout. Those are the rules. Familiarize yourself with the rules of chess before posting another time out whine.

If a player has gone into a deep think to find the moves to save his hide and times out that is not bad sportsmanship. That's chess.

Or maybe there's an internet glitch or other problem with the server he may have been disconnected, or perhaps you were disconnected. That's not bad sportsmanship. That's internet chess.

So, then how do you prove bad sportsmanship? Obviously, if he's taunting you in the chat window all the while his clock runs out, yeah.

Or try this - hack your oppoent's computer and take control of your opponents webcam remotely to determine if he's walked away or if he is still at the board desperate to find a move.

What's the big deal anyway? When your opponent's clock runs out, you win. Don't EVER issue or accept a game challenge for a time control that you can't live with.

THANK THE LORDY, LOLZ!!! THIS IS THE MOST ABSOLUELTY CORRECT THING I'VE EVER HEARD ALL DAY :3

I was not talking about you. But for you to call me out of line for simply stating an opinion, then I will openly and boldy state, Yes sir, I am talking to you.

Block me, like, legit, where the frack did I say I was talking to you? Just admit it! Oh lolz, your wrong. Me and El_Senior are right. Just do it. It's something jesus would frown upon if you dont!

WOW.

1. Some may need to finish games to be able to enter another tournament. This MAY be the case.

2. If this thread has been beaten to death, forgive us that don't look at or post in all blogs for the worthless points.

3. Velocity posted this for constructive comments. Maybe some that may even help with his situation.

4. MAYBE, just maybe, he is not on every other chess website, as, obviously, some are.

vinny, this site is not easy to navigate for newbies. You offer some good advice (for blitz), so why not leave it at that. Many of us here have questions, and this is the easiest way to (hopefully) get answers.

ekorbdal

It's happened to me twice. In my case it's unforgiveable to run out time especially when my opponent knew I was playing just the one game! No excuse. JUST RESIGN!

It even happens in turn-based. You can't blame that on deep thought, disconnection or being desparate to find a move.

dave_9990

The resign button does not work in IE8.

sometimes.

jayzetar

El_Senior is right, but still its so annyoing when people do it on purpose. There's always a change of a technical error but many times it's just the player who does it. In my opinion if this happends on a quick bliz game (say a five minute game) it doesn't much matter. But if you're playing a longer game (more than 45 minutes a side) it can be really frustrating to wait that hour or so just to claim the win.

MrDurdan

If you decide to accept a challeng for an hour long game or post a challenge for an hour long game, be prepared to have to wait for an hour to claim the win! Stop complaining.

TheYear9876

i am playing a 14 day a move tournament ( NEVER  AGAIN ) i have 1 game remaining.i am a queen and a rook up my opponent only has pawns.  my opponent waits until he  has  30 mins left and then makes a move.i then make my move knowing it will be 14 days before i can move again. i  have asked him why he is doing this and why doesnt he simply resign.he doesnt reply. i can only assume he is an idiot.

He's obviously doing this on purpose. That's why i'll never play online/tournament chess here.

TheYear9876

yes i certainly won;t be playing anymore 14 day tournaments. i suppose we just have to accept that in society in general there are idiots so no reason why there shouldnt be on here as well.

Yawn, another clever dick with all the answers lol!!

couriermike

This kind of thing happens everywhere.  I play on FICS and it's happened several times.  My favorite was when my opponent got a lost position, stopped making moves, and used the rest of his time to berate me in chat for being an 'immature player' because I played the Guioco instead of the Ruy.  At least he was funny.

Your ego obviously has you believing these blogs are for YOU, and only YOUR "opinion", however ignorant it may be, is the only one that matters.

Of course I'm going to block you. I don't need your stupid comments on my home page. And, whenever I see your silly self-portrait next to your name, I'll just scroll past your gibberish.

You should move 4 inches South, if they'll have you.
