Question concerning chess.com

Hello everyone.  Thank you for taking the time to read my post.  I am approx 1800 ish in chess.com ten minutes blitz.   And, according to statistics, I am in the top 96.2 percent.

Now we all know chess.com is a site for all countries, as we can see the flag you represent.  Some people who have been stalking me in real life due to curiosity pointed this out to me and asked me if I am one of the strongest players in the world?  I replied yes to boost my ego.

But seriously, I want an honest answer, whether it boosts my ego or not.  Am I.... in fact.... one of the best chess players ever, ever since morphy took his little finger and pushed the e4 pawn?

Ok...I get this is a troll post.  That i understand.  But i will play along.  So....You want to know if you're one of the best chess player of all time, based on your online G10 rating?

Avatar of Magikstone

Not of all time, but... well how strong would you say I am?  I mean, I am statistically in the top 96 percent.

I have no idea how strong you are.  Especially basing it on an online blitz rating.  I will say this though...You have been here 11 years, and you're an 1800 blitz player.  How do you think its going?

you would be good compared to 1700 and below.

This reminds me of a discus thrower who, after an horrible performance in a competition, said something like 7 billions of people were worse at it than him.

Hello I want to introduce myself with this post. I've been playing on this site with my son and his best friend for a few years and only recently started playing other people on it. I'm having a great time. I have been in love with the chess goddess since I was twelve and I'm 64 now. Back in the 70s and 80s I had a 1711 correspondence rating and no computers just books. I'm looking forward to some great battles with you fellow board warriors out there! See Ya

Sad reality says that being in the top 96% means you share the same rating range with 96% of chess.com users. Tell your ego to get excited when you reach the top 4%...

The stats show a percentile rating. 96th percentile is the top 4%.

Probably not. You are one of the best in the top 4% of this site. There are 28,361,000 members on this site; therefore you are in a group of 1,134,440 on this site. But, there have been many, many great chess players who have lived in over the last 100 years that have never been a member of this site. So 1 in 1,134,440 likely becomes 1 in what . . . 2,3, or 4 million? More? So, likely no, not one of the best ever to have lived or played the game.

But, hey, you're better than me and the other 27+ million members of the site. That's not all that bad, is it?

I'm in the top four percent.  Surely that's got to mean something.  Chess.com is the biggest website by far.

No, you and me are still patzers.

Avatar of Lagomorph

mmmm... still 55,000 people on here better than him !

But that's my point.  A serious player, like an international master for instance, this  strength is so rare only stockfish can defeat them with ease.  I am in fact a casual player, and for a casual player my rating is very high.
