Indeed. There's a complicated formula that determines how your rating changes - depending upon the outcome of the game. If you are playing against someone of the same strength, you will lose rating points for losing a game, gain rating points for winning a game, but your rating won't change much should you draw.
When you play a stronger opponent, you may gain points even if you only draw - and you may lose few (if any) rating points should you lose.
Conversely, when you play a weaker opponent, you may lose points even if you only draw - and you may gain few (if any) rating points should you win.
If one player runs out of time (whether playing Live Chess or Turn-based chess), that player normally loses. An exception to this is when the player WITH sufficient time had insufficient material to force a win; in that case the outcome is a draw.
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site, so I was hoping someone could explain how Live Chess works here. Is it based on points, and assuming your opponent has encountered a greater loss by way of pieces (or points), can you still lose because you took more time? How is that calculated?
