The points are the same regardless.
resign instead of checkmate

People always resign before I have the satisfaction of checkmating them. Do you receive the same amount of points for someone that resigns? I hate how they always resign the move I before checkmate them.
I know how you feel, it's like, dude, can you wait 10 seconds and let me get the satisfaction of checkmating you?

It's always fun to checkmate :) But winning the game is always winning the game whether it's checkmate, resignation by opponent, winning on time..

I think to each his own, of course, but I think one should always resign when you know you will lose

I won't allow myself to be mated if I can avoid it. I'll simply concede that I played poorly and am going to lose the game. Recently an opponent had me in a mating net and I didn't realize until it was mate in one and when I saw this I resigned instantly. No point in continuing. I think it just comes down to what you see. If you see you're going to lose no matter what then the manner of your defeat is up to you. You can resign or play on. Conversely, isn't it ironic that some people consider playing on in a completely lost position disrespectful to the winning player? It's all subjective really. 🤷♂️

If it's a forced mate in 2 or 3 I let the moves play out, why not? If it's just a losing endgame with no chances of even drawing I usually just resign, not to "deny opponent satisfaction" of winning, but simply because I don't want to waste more time on the game. There is nothing instructive about random king moves (unless there is a good chance of accidental stalemate due to low time...etc). In fact, sometimes if I am in a much worse position and there's a mate trap set up, I'll deliberately fall for it to end the game. Like resigning while also allowing the person to play the cool mate.
