Standard-Blitz differential

hi all,

anyone know if the pool of blitz players is stronger than the pool of standard players?I ask this cause I hover around in the upper 98% in standard yet in blitz I barely get up to 93%.it could be that I severely suck at fast time controls but I suspect it's the former.

I have no statistical evidence of that fact, but I noticed it too. I guess this only apply to the players that play both ; blitz develops some fast-tactic calculation skill. I mean that although the average blitz player is not better than the average standard at a middle-term time control, those who play both can use blitz skills in standard, whereas the opposite is harder.

I think perhaps more people play blitz too. If you just look at the chart thing and compare the amount of seeks for blitz, and the amount of seeks for standard, there will be more seeks for blitz

also I rarely play standard and I'm guesing there are others like me who only play blitz..

indeed....the pool of blitz players is bigger than the standard one (900,000 + versus just 500,000).probably not conclusive evidence of a stronger pool...but I know a lot of stronger players play just blitz to avoid cheaters.

is the pool of bullet players stronger than blitz players though? I am on the 90th percentile for bullet but 93rd for blitz

Bullet is not chess, but fast moving of the mouse ; timeouts are 99% of the won games. You might as well ask if ping pong players are stronger than tennismen (no disrespect intented for either).

I agree  !!!  Chess is supposed to be complex where thinking is how u win.  I find blitz to be just as u stated above.   Blitz is another game ,  not classical chess as most know it.
