If they are 1200 exactly it probably is because they have not played (finished) any rated games yet. So after they have finished a game or two, depending on who they beat, they can go up really quickly.

Sometimes in live chess, I begin to play with somebody that has 1200 points and at the end of the game appear 1500 or more. How is possible?
