He may have been using a time delay in his game.

If, for example, he set the game to 5 minutes plus 2 seconds per move, he could be making his move just fast enough not to have his clock change.

As you mentioned, he was down to 9.5 seconds, which I am going to guess was an endgame. It sounds like he was in time pressure, which means he was going to make his moves FAST. Maybe fast enough not to show a difference in his clock.

Hope this helps!

PS- I don't like time delays either!

Hi,

For almost 5-6 moves, his time went all the way to 7 seconds then back to 9.5 Seconds. He was a premium member did that help him? If so then its really unfair.

Just like barefoot said you might have been in a game using increments which would explain his time going up. As for his time never going down, if you look in the options for your live chess games you will find a setting called premove. If this is turned on, it is possible to make your move before it is your turn. This is obviously very risky in any game when you're not in time trouble, but can be a life saver. I've played people with only 3 seconds left on my clock to 30 on theirs and ran them out of time because of this. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Premium members get this feature of Auto-Timeout protection which is really unfair since they will not loose due to timeouts!

"Auto-Timeout Protection Premium Members get auto-timeout protection! If you are about to lose an Online (Turn-based) Chess game because of timeout you will automatically get put "on vacation". This can save you from silly losses and lost rating points due to timeouts!"

That day i witnessed it while playing against a premium member and it was not a pleasant experience.
