Time Stamping Please

BUMP - if you would like time stamping bump this thread!

iotengo

I think bumping might annoy some of the mods.

Nonetheless, I do think that this would be incredibly useful.

furtiveking

Personally, the lack of timestamps is why I play my live chess at another place.

DelCheMethod

@vadsamoht ... I posted that same comment on a dozen threads last night that all had to do with user requests for time stamping, some threads as old as 5 years ago.

I didn't do it to upset the mods, but to bring the issue up as to why a simple enhancement that has been requested/promised for over 5 years is still not available. Perhaps if enough of us bump the threads, it will finally move from tentatively planned to implemented.

@furtiveking ... That is why I'm considering trying out ICC or playchess. I see value in stamping when analyzing my games - am I moving too fast, long thinks and still making blunders, etc.

Heh, well, we aren't supposed to really talk about other chess sites here, but, I don't play at either of those.

Capa_a

We're not supposed to talk here about other sites which implement timestamping?  As it is a very basic feature - like ICC which everyone knows has had it for what, 20 years?  I don't want to be antagonistic but there is no way to comprehend how this isn't implemented yet.  I know this site is focused on Blitz, but a lot of us play Slow Chess.  Look at the top 10 groups - 2 of them are devoted to Slow Chess (Dan Heisman Learning Center, and NW Aww-Rats Free Video Lessons).  I know, I know, wait for version 2.0 of the site...  We'll see I guess.

sure, timestamps are great but I resent ICC's now limiting free use of their site to 1,800 games/year (merely 5/day unrated games as a guest), though I suppose it's not so bad that you can have the games' pgn automatically appended to a file on your PC.

at least with chess.com, there's no limit on free games played or whether they're rated or not.  sure would be a lot nicer with timestamps, though

It's actually been the rule around here for years.

Time-stamping is definitely on the to-do list... but for after V3. So you'll likely see it at some point in 2014. Sorry I can't be more specific at this point.

Tactical_Battle

Yeah agree....time stamps r essential

Awesome!  can't wait to see what eric and the crew come up with in 2014.

FYI We DO HAVE timestamps for all live games played on Chess.com, we just can't show them in game archive yet, but we are definitely going to have it for all games in the archive at some point.

I don't know how your system works, but I could imagine that it might be possible to add the time stamps to generated PGN:s via "Get PGN" without affecting other parts of the site.

2mooroo

Chess.com is painfully behind the curve in features.

Why is that piotr? If you already keep the info, why can't you show it?

A million small distractions would derail upcoming awesome Chess.com version. The team needs to stay focused. Please give them time :).

Fair enough. Thanks for the answer.

DelCheMethod

Hope we do see it soon, but I have no confidence we will. That's why I bumped this thread, and about a dozen others where users requested time stamps - some almost five years old - and most had staff messages about "coming soon", "it's just around the corner"' etc.
