i am a latvian gambit player.
Being a Ruy Lopez player often I've played against this as Black too and used the Qd4 trick fairly often. But just today I played a game where the computer recommended pinning the Knight on f3 with my Bishop, where there was no pawn to protect - it would seem vulnerable all the way out there on g4 when a tempo would be wasted when it gets kicked back to my own side. And if I took the f3 Knight, it would aid the development of his Queen to f3, a great position for it, no?
(as you can see, the move I played was Be7)
Ah, in that position, the bishop pin is actually quite deadly because the opponent's queen is located on d2. This means when your knight jumps to d4, it attacks both the queen and knight destroying the pawn sstructure!
New to chess.com. What is meant when people say “Do tactics” - do they mean do puzzles? I don’t see a section on doing tactics here.
Yes, same thing. Technically, they are called "tactics puzzles" but some sites shorten it by calling it "tactics" or "tactics trainer" and come sites like chess.com just call them "puzzles."
p.s. Actually chess.com used to call that section "tactics" but renamed it "puzzles" a few months ago when they came out with 3 min and survival Puzzle Rush, so that "puzzles" could be in the same section.
lol don't mean to flex but the same thing happened to me. I got to 1899 but dropped to 1800.
Games or tactics puzzles? I'm sure most of us can sadly relate to losing 100+ rating in either.

Both!
Play slower time controls until you reach a decent standard. Once you are able to get a good vision of the board quicker you can start playing blitz.
Why did you resign in this game?

15 moves in, you are even up a pawn. Whilst your king isn't in the greatest place, you're not in a clearly lost position.

Actually yes I do see that now. Still, I don't have the skills to take advantage of the nuanced attack possibilities opened up by my opponent's newly compromised pawn structure. I open kind of ok, then early mid game all to often get tied up in knots and mated, or have to resign. Such as this recent game:
Hey, I think there are many people like me who play hard to push their rank, and sometimes they do get 100 points in a single day but then happens a series of unfortunate events and then they go back where they belonged. So I think you should share your ideas, experiences, thoughts anything you think is good, OH sorry not good but funny.
My advice is to either flag or give up....

...yes I all too often feel like giving up chess entirely, but this fascinating game always lures me back. It is personally confronting to suck so badly at something I like to do so much (lost another ~100 points yesterday to end up in the high 800s)
I would suggest playing in longer games with more time to think, and scanning the board to see what your opponent is doing and what his or her pieces are doing, so you don't blunder any pieces. Train in tactics such as double attack, a fork, skewers, and such, since there is a lot of opportunities that can be exploited. I myself have to get better in all of these things as well since I was at the same level you were before I started practicing this. Good luck with your playing

You play your move on reflex, try to play each move after you really take the time to think!
When you get to 1400 or 1500 in rapid it will be a lot easier to play some decent blitz game.
EricFloNicole good advice and I'm taking it. No more blitz until I reach >1400 in rapid. Right now my 15+10 at ~1150 is better than my atrocious blitz (838), but in rapid I'm still missing basic stuff like forking two pieces with my pawn, stuff that I would otherwise see instantly in any tactics trainer! I'm actually starting to question the benefit of tactics trainers, as I'm good at them but there seems to be little carry-over to the game board.
I have work to do at 15+10 and like someone else said (something like) you have to earn the 'right' to play blitz
Just play 10 min blitz. Unless of course you know literally no opening theory. Then you might actually need the time in rapid.

No I definitely need the time in rapid. Like in this recent 15+10 game, I try to develop all my pieces quickly and still get stomped. So many opening traps to be wary of.
I'm between 920 and 1040 player....I stop playing for a day whenever I lose three games in a row...by then you are frustrated and keep playing weak and stupid...give it a break...
