When you encounter these players, the best course of action is to discuss your prostate problems (real or fake), and try to convince them they really should get their prostate checked.
Trash talkers in live games

I typically play anybody from 800-1400, so I can't speak for 1800+ rated players, but in the group I play there is a LOT of trash talk. Really immature stuff too, like "you are such a d***" or most common "f*** you" when I win a game for example. It happens to me quite a bit. I know there are some immature people on here, but what strikes me is this stuff happens a LOT! The whold point is, I want to have chat enabled so I can talk to people after the game to tell them 'good job' or listen to their comments, but 9/10 times as soon as the game is over, I get the typical "f*** u" reply to me. It really defeats the point of having "chat" enabled in the first place.
I bet you 5 of the 9 are the same person. The rest are just their friends that want to add fuel to the fire.

Hypothesis: "the lower rated the player, the more likely they are to trash talk."
So...would Nakamura trash talking today disprove this?

There's no place for the trashy mouths. Chess.com should monitor these players and issue warnings and penalties.

Youre gay

Wow. I've been here less than a week and haven't noticed anything like this. I failed to say hi once because I was too dumb to understand the chat function initially.
As far as sore losers are concerned, this is chess, not snakes and ladders. History is full of grandmasters jumping up on tables and shouting "I refuse to lose to an idiot like you!" I hope to do it myself some day.

Turn the chat off and be happy. If you leave chat on you're either not focused on the game or inviting a disruption for which the other player may be too happy to provide. It's very unlikely you can safely carry on a meaningful conversation anyway.

Trash talk also increases as the time control decreases, in my experience.
I don't mind trash talk and have to admit I do it sometimes (usually when someone plays a known bad line and gets away with it lol), but yeah there is no need to really insult people. You can just disable chat for those people and leave it active for others. When they start to insult, click the little disbale chat option in the top of the chat box. I'm guessing that disabling chat will frustrate them more than the trash tralking frustrates you lol.

I just found this thread after suspending the chat function and posting this on my profile info. It seemed relevant to this topic, so I've reposted it below.
Hello.
To anyone wondering why I have suspended the chat function, I have unfortunately found it necessary to take this decision. It's nothing personal (for the vast majority of you, at least). I've simply encountered way too much negativity on the chat function. Unfortunately, there is a small but extremely unpleasant minority of players who prefer to use it to insult, harass, and trash-talk during games. I don't mind some good-natured barbs, but some of the chat messages I've received go way beyond the pale. I know most players use it like gentlemen and ladies, but I've simply gotten tired of the bile that some people choose to spew on here, and have therefore had to allow a few bad apples to ruin polite conversation for all. Life is simply too short to deal with this level of negativity. Hopefully at some point I'll feel differently and reconsider this, but this is how it stands for now.
In the meantime, I wish you good luck in your game with me, in your playing career, and in life in general! Thanks for your time.

Sanche, it's unfortunate that you have censured everyone including yourself from conversation. I would think you could turn off the chat function if and when trash talk begins. I think you're missing out on one of the benefits of chess.com - that is the positive conversation with your opponents and the social aspect of the game. Sincerely, Tony D

I can ignore the rude comments, or disable chat, but what I cannot stand is when someone simply abandons the game, in a lost position, with most of their time remaining. Then if I want to gain the point I have to keep an eye on the game until their time expires.
So far as I can tell this is my one and only life and I do not appreciate jerks wasting even a couple of minutes of it.

A year or two ago I convincingly beat a 2300+ rated player in OTB play in a weekend tournament. He was understandably miffed, as my rating at the time was about 1970, but his behaviour was inexcusable. He left the board in a lost position, when his last tactical cheapo had failed, and did not return until his clock had fallen. He then complained to the controller that he should be awarded the point and had lost only because I was distracting him by .... grinding my teeth!!
Fortunately the controller just laughed at him, and told him that IF I was doing so AND it was distracting he should have complained at the time, and not after losing the game.
Yes. I'm too very irritated on people starting the game by saying "hi".
