It had been a long time and I decided to log back into chess.com to see what's new, especially since I've been watching some of the vids on youtube.
But so far the lag is so bad that it's completely unplayable in live blitz (I've been trying 3 2). I have a connection speed that runs 20-40 down, no problem with any other sites.
Anything on the site that can be changed to improve this?

Try adjusting your connection settings. (In live chess settings)
Thanks notmtwain. I just logged back in and played a game without any issue. I looked at the connection settings but I didn't change them just yet. It's also 3:40am and I moved over from an Ubuntu system to a freshly-installed Arch system, so there are too many variables to isolate things just now. I'll keep an eye on all this and report back if I continue to experience problems.
One other thing I might mention. Earlier when I had the problem I tried another chess site and I was actually having problems there as well. "Reconnecting" lag. I reset my router and killed off a bunch of tabs (I particularly suspect Words With Friends) and then played another game and that was working.
All will require some more experimenting over the next or two.
