USCF Online Rated Tournaments

Dear Members -

We are preparing to launch USCF Online Rated Tournaments and potentially even more cool stuff involving weekly USCF Tournaments in Live Chess Wink (stay tuned).

We are looking for the help of 2-3 members who are also USCF Members and would be interested in 3-5 hours of volunteer help in managing the group each week.

Please contact VP Danny Rensch (just send him a message) if you are interested in hearing more about what the role entails. The basics include:

- helping to authenticate that USCF members ARE who they SAY they are until we get some tech in place to do it automatically

- helping with standings and prizes

- helping with basic questions that will come up in the group

Thank you!

Awesome news. I assume this will be the online blitz rating?

Avatar of staggerlee

wow this sounds awesome. I've never played in any official chess events, just online. This would be amazing.

Not sure Scala, but if you're really from Portugal I don't think you can be a member of the USCF.

I'm pretty sure anyone that pays the USCF membership fee can become a member. Therefore it wouldn't be free.

Yep, Martin's right.  Which makes me wrong...again. Laughing From the USCF site:

Section 1. Adult Memberships. Any person may become an Adult (also known as Regular) Member of the Federation upon payment of $40 for one year, $72 for two years or $104 for three years, or a Premium Adult (also known as Premium)

Avatar of Martin_Stahl

Yeah, I double checked after I posted. The only big difference is if you want a premium membership; they charge an additional cost for the magazine being mailed outside of the US, Mexico or Canada.

That would be the last reason I need to join the USCF.

It's probably an ONLINE rating, similar to correspondence. I don't see USCF granting the major portions of the USCF time controls online access. Too much cheating would happen.

Can you use these ratings to get titles then?

I guess you get norms. It just makes sense then

Until they post differently, I'm assuming this is the same type of deal that the USCF is doing over at ICC (http://www.uschess.org/content/view/12816/772/). They have weekly blitz tourneys where you can get an official USCF Online Blitz rating. It is separate from normal OTB blitz.

That said, you don't get titles for blitz ratings; you get them for regular rated games in the USCF (game in 30 minutes+) and right now, only OTB.

Now that I re-read that, that may actually be USCF rated correspondence (since it is called Online here). That would also be very cool.

I'm interested. My username in the USCF forums is Jion_Wansu
