Wasting Time......

Ever play a chess game online and your one move away from checkmate and you wait for your opponent to make that last move but he seems to just sit there and is unresponsive. So you just wait and try to tell him to move but he/she just isn't listening and to make it worse he has 10mins on the clock left.... I am usually a slow thinker so i usually play 20 min games and i respect people taking there time to think of a move but when your one move to mate i find it irratating for my opponent just to waste time and what makes it worse is that I have a poor internet connection so I sometimes get disconnected and lose the game :(
I think chess.com should have a 5min limit per move so that way people don't get their time wasted...as much...

He has 20 mins to use, accept it!

I'm just experiencing the same at this exact moment. I usually play 5 12, with 12 seconds added for each move. That way I only have to wait five minutes instead of twenty.

and avoid playing them again...if possible

Yeah it can only be one of these two options! *rolls eyes*  I agree with most of what else was said in this post, but this is rubbish.

So you are saying there is a noble reason for this? Elaborate.

No.  There are any number of reasons both real and imagined that we don't know, and to pull two out of your hat like that is just silly...and insulting!  According to your statement the parents of any child that behaves in this manner is suddenly a bad parent...do I need to elaborate any further just how far off the mark that statement is?

On a slightly different note, I have a online game were my opponent has been on vacation since some time in April I believe. He is far too behind in material to actually do anything and I don't know why he doesn't just concede.

:::sigh::

Sa la vie.

Loki, you being at 1400 rating I wouldn't concede either.

There are many and yet you have provided none? Interesting... And no kids are prone not to make rediculous decisions when parents are involved. Perhaps that is more accurate but proven nonetheless. Unless you would rather blame video games or movies... You're not one of those guys are you?

Do I need to name other reasons Anthony?  Do you really believe there are only those two reasons for this happening?

So you are saying because the child makes this decision the parent is a bad parent?  And you think this proves what you say?

OMG!

Avatar of Suggo

So are there more than the two reasons you gave out there that might explain this behaviour?

Maybe, maybe not, but you have yet to enlighten me...

LOL, interesting that this thread is about people who waste others peoples time when they know they are in a losing position...Anthony has decided to demonstrate it!  So what is your excuse Anthony?  Bad parents or addicted? LMAO

They're losers. We just have to deal with that fact. If people have nothing better in life than to stall a board game then I pity them indeed. It's either kids with bad parenting or addicted adults.... In the mean time, I guess you can crack open a book...

Great demo Anthony!

I am now opening my book!  LOL

I trust that I have arrived at the forum where we navigate the deep oceans of nature verses nurture. Are some children born to be relentless drains on society or was it really bad parenting? Is there such a thing as a "bad seed"? As we sift through the many variables and countless possibilities, I would like to say that if we resolve this age old philosophical debate with clarity, support and factual proof, we shall all be very rich indeed.

BTW - I was a bad seed with bad parents and now I am addicted to wasting time by wasting others' time. You see, we agree to a time limit at the onset of a game. I will respect your time win or lose. I personally enjoy staring aimlessly at the computer screen when in a lost position. The helpless feeling of impending doom is being thrust upon me with every ticking second. My heart races and confusion begings to weave it's way into my brain. Then it happens: The calming effect is hypnotic and allows me to meditate on the error of my way. I stare so long that the pieces start talking to me and calling out my name. The take on animated forms and ................Sorry, I was watching the wrong window. It wasn't chess I was staring at after all.

I believe I was 1700 when the game started, since that time I have played many people around the 1800-2000 mark and lost all of them.

And the game is clearly lost for him, the best he could hope for is a stalemate, which I would not provide for him.

I agree Anthony that the world over lacks discipline in our children. Children these days feel that they are entitled to everything and that they need to do nothing for it. I believe that we as a global society are failing the younger generations by not holding them accountable. I do know that human nature tends to do whatever is necessary and that if people think they are being watched, they behave better, especially kids.

I guess you lack simple comprehension skills as well. Have fun passive-aggressively sidesteping my questions. I've heard brick walls give better retorts than that... No pretty much the same sorry about that.

*looks up from book*

Sidestepping your questions!?  lol  There only has to be one more reason availiable for your assertion to be wrong, do you think there might be another reason out there that explains this type of behaviour Anthony?

.........this really is like being one move away from checkmate and Anthony wants to just keep on holding on! lol

That's the way Anthony, never resign mate! LMAO

*goes back to book expecting one day Anthony will learn...well hoping more than expecting!*

Avatar of CPawn

What is a bigger waste of time?

Someone letting there clock run out 1 move from mate?

The other player starting a post on wasting time?

Me for responding?

Avatar of ChessDweeb

it's all relevant. Isn't everything we do a waste of time? We all die eventually.

*looking up again*

Serious conversation?  You made an outlandish statement and now you are trying to defend it!  Answer this question honestly and then you tell me if you were wrong or not!  Here it is, it isn't too hard

Is there any other reason out there other than the two you have put up, why someone may behave in the manner in which we have been referring?

Give a direct YES or NO answer to that.

I wouldn't resign in his position to anyone less than 2000.
