Yeah, he will be severely limiting himself if he aborts all games that are not of a certain type of opening. By limiting himself, I mean that he is limiting the level of skill that he can reach in chess.
What are the rules on Aborting games?
Check out this #chess game: Bacia420 vs lilmorphy - https://www.chess.com/live/game/65445211059
I was playing a game and was winning. Then the opponent somehow aborted the game when moves had already been played. The game never went in to my game history as it was counted as an aborted game. How is this possible for someone to do this?
Are you sure they did it? The servers may have gone down for scheduled maintenance or otherwise rebooted - all games are lost when that happens, IIRC.
I just had a game in rapid with the player DraxWasHere and it was aborted after my 5th move. I only thought games could be aborted only after the first move, but it was almost instantly aborted after my 5th move. Is this allowed or is this a glitch?
I use the abort button when the opponent takes ages to start. I suspect they are setting something up- chess bot, video, whatever.
Aborting should not be an option - if you have a free win (much lower rated player) take it. If you get matched with better players, lower your rating range. If you just don't like an opening, sucks. I play Queen's Gambit but I don't just quit when I get 2. ... c6 or 1. e4.
If someone aborts a game for a dumb reason, report them. Chess dot kahm is for people who enjoy chess and want to play lots of it against all kinds of people, not just for beginners who want to try Scholar's Maet. If you might quit a game in move 1, either play the annoying opening (I lost often in opening, I feel your pain) or just study it and stop wasting people's time.
I know many people enjoy certain openings, wasting people's time, and unfairly stalling ratings, but constantly abandoning a game for no reason is mean and inconsiderate. Resign if you are losing, play if the opening hasn't checkmated you.
I am fine if you have to call your gf or drive to a funeral when you thought you had time to play chess kahm, but people often quit a game (without explanation or rating change) early, and it really annoys people like me who care about chess. If you want to troll and not play, play unrated or daily so people can feel alive after being unfairly cheated.
Also, you can avoid any of your reasons to abort a game - play if you are ready to be beat to the ground by a weird opening or an opponent with a far rating.
Sorry, but if someone takes 10 or even 15 seconds to make thier first move as white, there's something going on. Black - maybe give em some time, but after you have been playing for a while you should know what you are going to play in response to E4 or D4. Modern opennings may require some thinking, but they are not that common. Basically I am sick of 900-100 rated players pausing for ages then rolling about 6 or 7 openning book moves in a row, getting into a winninng position then fumbling, then coming back with another series of star moves. Abort or better still, make em wait and time out.
Yes it's mainly teenagers that do this kind of stuff but its wasting everybody's time.
People, just forget the whole book idea and Lear the main opening theory so you can just push moves that are positionally effective even if unfair to line - memorizing players.
Have a 50% blunder rate and nobody will plat you in the first place so you will never need to abort :
Thanks for the reply. I don't remember the guy's name. Anyways, I've noticed this is a thing at level 800-1150. Above that, I haven't encountered this yet (but obviously a small number of games). I now also think, that this shouldn't matter too much (low priority issue I would say).
