frankly, i don't think that any words should be banned, because there is always an option of disabling chat...very good option....and quite sufficient, no additional "safety net" is needed...one click on "disable chat" is all that anyone really needs to protect him/herself (instantly!) from the chat that has for whatever reason become unpleasant to him/herself.
what is the list of banned words in this chat?
Referring to any human as a lower primate is insulting. One trouble with words like "monkey" is the guy might not realize how it's used, esp. non-native English speakers, or it can depend on context - might just be a lower-primate reference - like calling someone a lemur. Still not polite.
but i was not refering to any human as a lower primate...i said at least once before in this thread that the converstaion was, believe it or not, about evolution....and your presumption that typing the word 'ape' surely "refers to some human" is just a presumption...do you really think that no one is using "ape" for anything but to demean the human? did you ever see zoological books?

This is so childish, I hate how the US calls itself free when you can't even write some letters in a certain order.

I think a private chat during a game should remain as so. Chess is a game of war and sometimes blunders happen, words slip out due to frustration. Sometimes an opponent is clearly beaten, (playing with a lone King) and refuses to resign, drawing the game out much longer than is needed (waiting an additional 3 days to make a move) causing more frustration and disrespect. I believe common courtesy is more of value than a few choice words said occasionally.

yes, indeed….there is a way to disable chat, instantly, at any time, this is very good feature, but banning specific words is ridiculous, and even more so when this includes words that are in every dictionary, not a slang dictionary, but any dictionary….besides, if someone wants to swear in any language other than english he/she could do so till the cows come home (is "cow" banned, just like an "ape"?)…..ho ho ho…."disable chat" is sufficient protection from insults, banning words from decent and square dictionaries, presuming that they are "always used pejoratively" is….gross!
I don't remember the conversation but, i think it was our conversation that you got muted on. i didn't report you and we were having fun just bullshitting. no cussing or rudeness.
