we both started out with all the same pieces -- he had his chance -- so how does going for the win make me a bad sport?
i might not have opted for taking the easy way if he hadn't been complaining about how long i was taking earlier in the game when i didn't have as big an advantage -- by the end, i just wanted to get it over with. i really wasn't taking a terribly long time for any of my moves. people who are in a hurry need to abstain from joining long games.
If you want to go for another queen that's your business. Nothing to do with being a bad sport.
I recall on playchess, some of the sore losers actually figured out how to trick the program into awarding them the win when their own time runs out. It would start with a series of draw offers, abort offers, and take-back requests that I would have to decline over and over. Then from there they would wait until the last few seconds and lag out, causing the clock to reach zero without flagging them. Then when you claim win on disconnect, it would award them the win by mistake. I was furious the first time some trixter did that to me, and I fired off a letter to chessbase but never heard back. Since then it's happened a few more times (all in the same pattern), so now on playchess I just resign and move on to the next game if my opponent starts that nonsense.
You can thwart this by not responding to any of their offers, their clock continues to run..... at least this works on ICC, not sure about playchess as I dont play there a llot.
